All is cool and well but most of my char names that i used for years with no conflict are suddenly all taken by other people and god knows if they even play.
I have a set of names for my chars i don't just slam my face into the keyboard when making a char.

But why not just clear inactive players' accounts? That will not hurt anybody who is active and a lot of names will free up, no worries to the active players who got their char names and USE them. i wonder how many inactive accounts there are
But suppose those people with inactive accounts want to play again from tomorrow? Why should they lose their name to someone who only started recently?

because why not? how are people who played for a day and left any more important than new players?

And how are new people who might play for a day more important than people who have played for a day and might come back?
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

So let's make an inactive account sweep every 3 months, why not? maybe with an option to ask not to remove when a planned break occurs?
It will definitely help the servers

how would it help the servers? an inactive account is taking an insignificant amount of resources

Well, whos to say that a person deservs a name more than another person? And imagine going away for a longer period of time to work, like I do sometimes, only to come back to see your chars name is gone and taken by someone else? A char that you might have put alot of time and effort in.
But unless you have a super rare and uncommon name, its not really surprising that in this day and age with and with tons of people being online, that a name is taken. Were not special snowflakes anymore;)

Well, that sucks xD that's one of the reasons I'm also a strong supporter of account-based names, when you can name character anyway you like, names can duplicate, and you are still visible by account name or account and char name.
And I prefer to add people (accounts) as friends than just one of their characters.

Its just a name, be original or add a number to it or something. Its the internet, you should be used to names being taken by now.

I think it's pretty much unfair to all the new-coming players that the names would not be wiped as well. For many people (as to myself) picking a name is quit an important choice role playing wise. Now imagine the frustration when a fresh out of the closed beta game - that just had it's final wipe - comes out. And the waves of thousand new players comes in.
And it turns out every single memorable/popular/desired name is already taken by the tons of the closed beta players...
I am just saying it's not very fair and not a fair start.
NO I LIKE MY NAMES!!! *Beams shoot out of eyes* Seriously though, it's one of the benefits of being in the closed beta.
