Why not just make an "orb" that floats around the mob or next to the mob that changes color at % delimiters? It could look fluid, like any other spell/aura, with the option to toggle on and off.

The problem being we have Orbs around monsters already, like Viper Strike and... Other secret new skills.

Ugh, you're making this difficult!

Why not just keep with the simple idea of a floating health bar above their head with the option to Enable/Disable adjust width/length change color/hue ext ext.

When you run D2 in Glide mode, there's an outline around enemies that turns from green to red as they take damage. I can't think of a better way to do this.

Does this also work with Glide Wrapper (thats an utility that greatly improves graphics/performance of D2 on new machines, where it can otherwise look/work a lot worse than originally coded), at least the name suggests so, but I don't recall ever noticing it. But its been a long while since I played.

I like this idea as a whole, something that doesn't just float above the heads, but is well integrated into the visuals, yet informative! Guess the colours can be adjusted as needed.
I worked on a little something for this in Photoshop, its pretty basic but it has some slight graphical texture to it. It looks nice if you play it from green to yellow to red. Keeps with the gothic, dark, gritty feel of Path of Exile. I think the green color would need a little tweaking though. :)

Anyway, here is the link for the slideshow!

Sorry to res this old thread but I think there should be an option to display monster health during combat.

I think its important to have a visual feedback on how much damage your doing and also it allows you to spot monsters hiding under leaves or behind walls.

Maybe to prevent screen clutter we should limit it to just monsters who are currently engaged with the player: Currently damaging or being damaged by the player
Is there any news on this? It's something I would love to see as I find it difficult to spot the mobs on occasion.
I see no reason to exclude this option entirely, though make it toggle on/off either in the options or by assigned key

having an option like this would actually be very useful for melee trying to make out what the hell is going on in games with a large party spamming ranged spells and minions.

yes, there should be an OPTION (key toggle would be awesome) that provides this kind of functionality.

please.

I'm also in favour of this as a toggleable option. Health bars on all monsters would give you a quick visual indication of the aggregate health of a mob and allow you to estimate how quickly you can kill them.
