I have to admit that i was already in a bad mood, so i might have overreacted a bit on this.
You're also right about me being annoyed but it's not really about GGG's decision(s) but more about those people who constantly flame everyone who isn't as "hardcore" as they believe they are themselves.

Usually i always try to stay calm, be friendly and when i criticize something, i try to explain the logic behind my thoughts.
And then there are those people (trolls?) who insult everyone who has a different opinion than them and thereby make a flamewar out of every reasonable discussion and noone is actually doing anything against it.

Today was one of the few times, GGG actually listened to the players like me who just want to play a fun game without getting frustrated because that one second of not paying attention just cost me/us the character progression of an hour (or even days if you progress further than i did so far).
When i read the first announcement, i thought "finally a step into the right direction" and then the flaming and whining started and soon thereafter, GGG took a step back to satisfy the players who don't want anyone to have it easier than now even if it doesn't affect them.

And that's the thing:
One of the things i respected about GGG was that they always took their time thinking changes through thoroughly no matter how upset some people got.
This time though, the self-proclaimed hardcore players got mad and GGG bowed to their will.
How can i not lose some respect for them if one of the reasons for my respect vanishes to thin air?

PS:
On the actual topic: GGG always said that the reason for the death penalty in softcore is to prevent people from going all kamikaze and still progress.
To achieve this, losing 1% or maybe 2% per death would be more than enough. If you constantly die, you still wouldn't be able to progress after a certain point but it wouldn't be such a big annoyance to everyone who just dies from time to time.

I mean, how is it making the game more challenging if you're basically forced to wait until right after a levelup to try something you're not 100% sure you can do?
Basically, you only can chose between either being frustrated by the constant setbacks or be bored by never trying anything that is not completely safe...

The current death penalty is no challenge, it's just a mechanic that limits progress to those who play very defensively.

So, we have a softcore league for those who don't like the hardcore experience.
And then there's a system that makes sure that only those can progress after a certain point, who play just as if they were in a hardcore league.
It just doesn't make sense!

Personally I don't dislike the 15% penalty, I found the death-penalty makes the game exciting and less flat. It really gives me an incentive to keep improving my chars (in contrast to games where you're overpowered already halfway the campaign and becoming 250% OP instead of 200% OP doesn't make any sense, yeah, talking about Skyrim here, other type of game but comparable in terms of progressing a character). You can try things out anyway just after leveling up. Note that I'm a casual player having a job and other things to do, the penalty really hurts. So far all about personal preferences.

This topic totally changes when you take into account that most deaths aren't a result of a mistake made by the player but by desynch and/or huge fps-drops. While I don't mind loosing progress due to my own mistake(s) I really get frustrated loosing precious XP due to "being killed by the system".

So my suggestion is (again: from a casual player): 7,5 and 15 restored eventually and for now (till fps-spikes are fixed and desynch brought back to an occasional hickup in the internet-connection): as low as possible.
A new skill, and reworks of skills I liked but which werent much viable at all, awesome :) Hoping for the patch to come asap so I can start :D
two thumbs up!

Glad to see another new skill added to the game, and as well as the new unique items.

That will be in 0.11.4.

Good News,

I suggest an improvement for freezes/connection losts that could cause occasional deaths, something like a protection against those accidents.

Hopefully the performance increases in 0.11.4 includes fixes for people with amd cards. 7970 and ice shot/discharge make the game nigh unplayable :(

Looking forward to seeing the new skill!

Forcing the client to render a lower shader model solves this I would think..

Great stuff... I do like the change to 5%/10%. I thought those would be good values over 3/8.
Ooo I'm excited! Good stuff yet again guys =)
at least its not 8% loss.

I think in the next anarchy or softcore ladder you guys come out with

a death sets you back to 0%.

No issues at all here with amd radeon 6990 (and a i3930 cpu). Ice-shot/dis & Frost-nova all the way.
What do you experience exactly ?
