I loved the Urns in Diablo 2 which spawned champions or a boss mob, so I do love this idea as well.
My little tribute to Diablo 1 aka why Diablo 3 is the worst part of the series.

Nice idea! Kinda like a mini-map.

" Either a randomly spawning mini-instance, or just a little shrine that spawns with a clickable altar in the middle, I would like for it to be accessable by all levels, in any area. :p Lost in a wonderful world of VGM covers.

If TL;DR: Convert item into equivalent value boss, fight boss, acquire new/better item(s). I've been hoping to see this in an RPG, haven't come across it yet. Lady Luck Loves a Trust Fall

+1 Sounds nice. I do think that the strength of the monster should be somehow affected by the lvl af the character. Otherwise it could become just another way to gear alts (get a chance at certain uniques)

" I don't really understand what you mean. If people sacrifice high level/quality gear, they'll never be able to beat the enemy as a low level character, it'l be up to players to find a balance in what type of boss they can handle, much like the current map system.
