Bump, this, or any form of random events along the line of Torchlight 2 is pretty much the only thing PoE is missing.

this would be awesome, ive personally been stashing tons of decent rare items that are too valuable to vendor, and just cant find a buyer for. it really sucks when i run out of stash space and have to go and start clearing out rares because i find better gear, and a sink such as this would make it worth it to me to hang onto a few of them for the chance to really get some good gear.

i make too many alts as it is, and gearing them all can be a chore, but finding one of these ever elusive shrines would be a godsend, as i would be able to tp back to town, find an item in the level range of an alt im working on, and go for gold, hopefully finding some gear i could use. i do have to admit that it would be easily abused by higher lvl chars, and that char lvl should factor into boss str, to prevent people like me from using lower lvl gear simply to farm new gear for alts.
Is It only me or is it a mix from Magic Anvil and Shrine of Fate from FATE game ?

Anyway, it's pretty good. It's some sort of gamble in this game and quite interesting one up to that.

Why not let people farm gear for lower level characters?

If a weak item is what they choose to sacrifice when they encounter the shrine, that's their choice, they still have to actually find the shrine first. :p

I've never heard of that game before, it may have a similar system in it, however it has nothing to do with this suggestion.

Ah Fate prequel to torchlight if i'm correct or atleast what torchlight was based off of. As to the OP love the idea and support it fully.

^ I disagree here. Since frenzy discharges (green gem) is cold green should give cold damage and since power siphon (blue gem) discharges give lightning damage I think that would be a better choice. I like white as chaos but who would sacrifice a portal gem?

It would also encourage people to explore & clear areas in search of a shrine, instead of rushing through it to the next area.

Then again, you could still rush an area searching ... you don't always have to kill everything you see.

I'm....shocked.

I can't believe I forgot about lightning damage when I posted that, I feel ashamed, considering I play a Spark witch.

Taking your contribution into consideration;

Green = Cold damage
Red = Fire damage
Blue = Lightning damage
White = Chaos damage

Then give all summoned bosses a base physical damage (dependant on the quality of the item), which the elemental bonuses are stacked on top of.

Sound a bit better that way?

As for people sacrificing portal gems, there would be some who do, I've seen people give them away for free in the game, also if a portal gem counts as a level 20 gem (max bonus not counting quality), that's pretty good incentive to use one, which would make them even more valuable.

I'd also hope to see more white gems in the future, I have a thread for that http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/53946 with some ideas listed. If a white gem isn't capped at level 1, treat it as a normal gem type. (Would maintain some balance when/if others are added)

If people want to mindlessly rush through weak areas to search for the shrine, that's their loss, considering all the time where they don't have one is down time, if they're not killing along the way.
