Shrine of Exile

Shrine of Exile might sound cool and all, but the simple fact of the matter is:
1) We already have an item that you sacrifice to get more loot: they're called maps, and you dump currency into them. This would be a redundancy system; in other words, a map alternative. If the appeal is having something like this before endgame, an easier solution would probably be to make maps available before endgame. And Shrine of Exile shouldn't be very productive end-game, because players should be using maps instead.
2) It's extremely development intensive. There's a crapload of design and programming work that would go into something like this. Quite frankly, I'm not convinced it would add enough to justify the cost.

To be honest, I don't understand, at all, why this suggestion is so rampantly popular. I think everyone is imagining some kind of unbalanced version of it, while in reality they'd have to balance it to the point that it wouldn't be nearly as awesome of a loot-fest as everyone imagines.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I like the idea a lot + 1 from me.
+1 for sure!

The only thing I think I'd change is "5: Undead Colossus (mixture of body parts, from various enemies throughout the game)."

I love the idea but I think it'd be way cooler if it were a minion instead of an enemy... You collect body parts from slain enemies in your wake and forge them into a new powerful ally! (not really, but that could be the story behind the minion anyway)... Much more intriguing imo.

The fact that they're parts of your slain enemies means it makes more sense for it to be your minion than an enemy, imo.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience!

more bump for thisss.
GGG thank you for all the great things you are doing. You have combined every element of all other great Rpg's and joined them together as one Diamond, that will shine Forever.

This is coming straight from the heart <3

I like it.
True, the system compares to maps, but is available earlier and it doesn't take as lomg as clearing a whole map.
I think it's a good thing for players like me, who do not solely play for the endgame.
I proposed a similar idea which is borrowing from D2/D3 a little bit. Is the side areas should generate randomly on the map instead of a fixed path. By that I mean, the level should appear randomly in any given act or stage, which the player can "discover" through exploring. Have a paper thing search and destroy quest pinned on to the level (like a note that has something written on it) and then you go explore the interior of said area to meet the special mobs and the eventual gold chest. I also do propose since there are so many probabilities involved (appearance of the level in an act, enemy types and loot, appearance and loot inside chest being worth while etc) It wouldn't feel like a complete FU to the player if the gold chest was guaranteed to appear, the loot can still be random but just knowing there will be a chest at the end of these levels can provide a bit more incentive.

Since these levels (maps) exist already, it wouldn't be a hard thing to take some of the maps from the endgame and sprinkle it around in the acts for random generation. It would also be beneficial if the environment has more random intractable art that further shows off the scientology experiments. Like a three pronged rods sticking out of the ground channeling electricity. The player has to find a code book in a random drop from unique enemies that allows the player to activate the prop that can open a portal to bring a unique monster/boss to fight.

Was going to reply saying this idea is awesome, then realized I said it was awesome already in a post a few weeks ago.

So idea is still awesome!

The original idea and the thread are a very interesting read now with the Darkshrine league coming out.

Thanks for linking it in Announcements, Meerkatz.
