Maybe he/she is playing hardcore and survival is important.

Another thing. Melee physical vs empower lvl 2. I imagine melee physical is better for dps while empower is a more overall boost with life in particular? This a correct assumption?

If your looking for a safe hardcore build you should google marauder summoner. U basically stack life with belly of the beast.

Might as well combine empower with melee physical for the best effect.

Anyways I was browsing the forums and came across a raging spirit build. I think a raging spirit 2H staff as an off-hand will perfectly cover this build's weakness vs high damage aoe bosses.

Not sure about that, as most of us run AA in the +2+1 weapon, some run auras in the shield. It will just be annoying and pretty dangerous to swich in a mids of a boss fight.

I've gone through your post a bit and I cannot' seem to find a bit to say if this build would be effective without abusing snapshotting/after the incoming patch

Because that is impossible to know. But it was outlined time and again what problems for summoner in general snapshot fix will bring, as well as some positives (but for me they do not outweight the negatives, hoping for a buff).

Some summoner builds will be affected more than others, sure, but none will escape the effect. It is not about the build being effective post fix, it's about summoner as a whole being effective. As builds do not focus on summoning aspect that much, but rather on supporting (auras and supplement skills) and making the character itself different. Summoning is pretty much the same across the builds.

And if there was a choice between the two? Is there any way to tell which one would be better?

Unless i take out splash which is nice for the aoe i only got one blue socket and one red socket to spare.

My build is currently for snapshotting atm. Once the new league hits this is going to be updated with a different build. If you go back a few pages I started to discuss what I think may be the most optimal slot setup when considering everything that a summoner might need.

My idea was not to switch mid fight but before. You should preload the screen with raging spirits and tack on a lot of initial dps that should kill the boss before it does too much damage to your minions. There is also safety in distance.

Lack of AA shouldn't be dangerous once you revert back to the IR/Grace setup. Which I feel like is going to happen since I will most likely use Tabula Rasa until I can get a 6L lightning coil or Cloak with proper colors.

I guess its time to move auras out of the shield unless your using prism.

That is why I'm hoarding chroms and trading like a lunatic right now to stack exalteds. I'm pretty sure that getting a 6L cloak won't be too hard, colors though depend on luck...
