awesome patch, except for one exception...
onslought league is a huge disappointment. Reasons were already mentioned in this thread.

LOL! Piety and Vaal weren't killing players fast enough so GGG took it upon themselves to get the job done...
Crazy patch. :O

There is still the possibility to roll a 6L while you try to get back to your 5L though, so this "eternal orb to save links" idea still seems pretty bad to me. In the linking situation using an eternal orb to get back to your starting point is always a net loss.
The idea is that you are out of fusings though.
You read the example given, right?
If you spent 1500 fusings on your 5L to try to make it a 6L but it ended up as a 3x2L, it's possible your character just became severely underpowered until you can get something to link your skills up again. The example given was that the character is now "unplayable".
So your point of "getting back" to 5L and still having a chance at 6L again means you would be out fighting and gaining more Fusings. Your assumption is that you could still go farm on the character after messing up your 5L. That is not always the case and that's where the Eternal Orb can help.
One example that wasn't given by Chris that I think could be nice (but expensive probably) would be to Imprint a piece of gear that is missing 1 or 2 mods and then exalt them to try to get the mod you want. This way you don't get stuck with an undesirable mod and you don't have to Scour the item to start over (not that you would usually do that anyway).
So the Eternal Orb would let you min/max an item as much as you want if you chose to do that.
It's exactly what I said, an insurance cost. You're better stopping at your first 5L and get back to a few columns of fusings than to waste an eternal orb.
So in the case of getting a 6L it's an extra charge on the poor and of no use to the rich.
See the problem?

The way you're handling respecs is a+mazing! One of my only complaints about respecs in CB was that they were forced and without the ability to first test the balance changes that came with the patch, to receive feedback about what the toon needs / doesn't need. It created situations where you could really screw up a build if you didn't accurately predict how a change would translate to actual gameplay.
Also, less damage and less life: perfect! Now all we need is for mobs to have their life and defenses supercharged, to slow the game play down to 3-5 hit kills on white mobs for an average build, with mana constraints, exp rewards, and drop rates adjusted to compensate.

Awesome features, I have some concerns regarding the Eternal Orb though:
- do you guys realize that, with sufficient funds, you will now be able to craft perfect items?
- because of this fact I think that the only effect this will have is that the rich get richer.
I am concerned about that too. Eternal Orb will mostly be used to imprint items with 3-4 super stats and then exalt\imprint over and over until the item is perfect.
Exalted are super rare and eternals will also be super rare. Going through a few dozen of each to get a perfect item is a HUGE sum of currency, very few players will ever have the ability to do such.
It's like a hypothetical that's possible but so unpracticle it will rarely occur.

nope, i see it as a godsend. and i don't understand how wealth has anything to do with it. These will be useful to rich and poor alike( myself would fall into the poor category).
