You guys know Beta testers like to see you working, right?

I gotta admit, the radio silence is frustrating. I remember GGG posting on almost a daily basis covering builds, roadmaps, ideas and patches.

That was back when Bex still worked for GGG. The studio's community relations game has declined quite a bit ever since she left.
if this game had been released by Blizzard, the criticism and backlash would rival No Man's Sky. instead, GGG has a small army that will defend anthing and everything they do and curtail public perception. the content creators have almost entirely lost my trust in anything they say. Alkaizer might be the only one who just calls a spade a spade and will say that there's some crap aspects of PoE2. Kripparian as well, but he just stopped playing more than he spoke out.

if this was Diablo, the entire gaming and popular media ecosystem would be hounding GGG relentlessly. there would be three hour videos dissecting contradictory statements, what went wrong, how simple some fixes could be, etc. etc.

i honestly don't know how or why GGG has dodged this bullet. turn their streamers into a macedonian phalanx and throw around the 'souls-like' moniker, i guess.

releasing the game while knowing you're going on a "mandatory" three week vacation is genuinely insane.

coming back and saying "here's some kind of decent updates? later" right afterwards and disappearing again, is just equally insane.

i think this game is hot garbage. there are so many design choice and fundamental and mechanical flaws that i think it is probably two years away from being "good" and will likely never be competitive with poe1. this game as it is designed will never, ever get its core audience to run leagues every three months.

the rate at which GGG is publicly updating the game is atrocious and is why i think its now multiple years from being good, and not maybe one year away. remember, the general consensus pre-release was it'd only take about six months to get things right for a full release. that assumption now makes us look like we were huffing paint.

keep in mind that GGG canceled the PoE1 league we *should* have access to right now. not only did they not hit the mark with this game, they pulled an Overwatch and have certainly alienated a portion of their core demographic. we're still likely a month away from any PoE1 content. i think it was Exile Con they told us PoE1 only consisted of 12 employees currently, yet they still needed those 12 employees to ruin their insanely successful game's momentum and release this.... concept of a game.

i didn't pay a dime for PoE2, i've paid well into four figures supporting PoE1. i'm not some jaded penny pincher who's mad about $30. i am, however, extremely disappointed in GGG and this game. it's not that it's different from PoE1, it's not that it's too similar to PoE1. it's just not a good game, and the company behind it is being stubborn, and extremely weird towards its supporters.

maybe Chris needs to step in and talk. we've not heard from him at all since the release or in the leading up to it. and i don't mean talk as in some highly moderated streamer interview, but in some public forum. Jonathan clearly isn't that guy. i don't think i've ever seen him talk and not asked myself 'how many times did he rehearse these words in a mirror'. and, well, reddit ran Bex out of town.

someone needs to step up for sure. i tried to play the game again and i couldn't spend more than a couple hours mapping. it just isn't a fun game.

Part of it is that the newcomers are still in the campaign, or they set the game down after the campaign. Part of it is the general "Blizzard Bad" sentiment in the broader gaming sphere - which is warranted, but a lot of people will simply use Blizzard Bad as a cudgel for their gamer tribalism while also upholding double standards for their favorite companies. To these people, criticizing studios like GGG goes against the narrative that their favorite company is SAVING the video game industry from greedy Blizzard.

No one bought the game thinking they are beta testers. Putting "Early Access" on the label doesn't change that thinking.

That's consistency issue with terms being used in programming today. Much as any company wants to spin it. There will always be fundamental stages to development.

If you did not think you were going to play a Beta version of the game when they called it "Early Access" which lasts 6 months, then you fell for the sales pitch, not the reality.

It was established by GGG that this is not the full release of the game.

Go easy on the OP, he was obviously joking.

It was not really a joke. When I listened to their stream. Johnathon mentioned they couldn't make some changes because of the economy. I was particularly annoyed by that reasoning.

Beta is exactly the time you should be making big changes. Well technically it should be Alpha but it's painfully obvious a lot is missing from the game. Beta is when the project is near completion. The stages of development are really screwy here. Hence me calling it more of an Alpha.

Also the other poster not thinking they were signing up for Beta when it's 6 months long.

I'm simply encouraging consistent updates. Esp larger changes that would be healthy for gameplay instead of waiting for some magical moment. Players like to see flaws and not just bugs being tackled daily when Beta testing. Things like 0% Action Speed should have never made it past Alpha.

This game needs a lot of work.

Programming this stuff takes time you can’t just bash it out in an afternoon and call it done.

You'd be surprised. Especially if the framework is well done. As with anything coding you jump in thinking it'll be a 5 min fix and sometimes it is. Other times it takes days.

these guys don't know anything, OP. they just say what sounds best for their blind defense. that's 95%+ of the posts arguing against criticism of the game/studio. hell, look at the guy who just listed the tiniest of bug fixes and called it activity and said you must be joking. they're literally being intentionally intellectually dishonest. i don't know if they're paid or just reddit mods, but there's really no alternative. unlike you or i who comment because we care and want the game to be better, they just want to tell you you're wrong.

Ha, this actually made me smile. In the vast spectrum of EA games i've tried, PoE2 is no where near the bottom.

PoE2 has its problems sure but its strange that its playerbase seems to bounce between endless gratitude to 'John And Mark Hate Me Specifically' attitudes in the 2 major updates we've had in the last month or so.

Even stranger still is most of these people have accounts almost as old or just as old as mine, have they forgotten the last decade of quartlerly leagues and updates we've had?

I'm open to the idea that maybe GGG might one day lose their way, but to flip that switch, its going to take a bit longer than a month during the early access of the SEQUEL to PATH OF EXILE.

you can't lump all critics into one basket. i continue to see this 99% of the time i see someone criticize the criticizer. the dozens of complaints all get put into one "this person is just an internet troll antagonizer needs to touch grass."

you all still fail to realize the initial product is just infinitely inferior to what we, the actual people who have been around for a decade, expected. iTs JuSt EA bRo yeah from the company that literally redefined an entire genre. we expected a whole lot more than this.

Though this game is more Alpha IMO. Players like to see those patch notes constantly. Trust me. Players want to see changes and fixes no matter how small being pumped out.

It's good you talk to the community and tell them your intentions but it feels like you're treating this like an official release. Being careful with the economy and delaying changes because of it.

If you nerf something then next day think. Well maybe that was a bit much then buff it the next day. Who cares? You're trying to get the numbers right. No one with a brain is going to judge you.

However, everyone is going to judge you for slow work or inaction. I actually went back and looked at a project while it was in beta and for 4 months there was a patch nearly every day.

Obviously after beta I had big full pages of changes but in beta, throw that stuff out. Players like to see you working as they're playing. They like to see their reports being fixed quickly.

Beta is volatile by nature. Just do it. It's worth it.

So true, but sadly i dont believe in magic. I expect 2025 realise with +3 acts and minior changes, this is it.
U know what i WANTED to see? daily/weekly BIG changes cuz they have tons of feedback, for example:
People have problems with economics, think that there are some abuses in game? lets do hardreset with some fixes and test how it goes! Instead they REFUSE to do big fixes like its REALISED game and not EARLY ACCES. Thats what makes me think poe 2 EA= poe 2 realise.
They afraid of nerfing/reseting etc cuz its probably finished game but without 4 5 6 acts and some classes. But suddenly people dont want (leaving game atm, check charts) to play it and that places GGG into situation where they dont know what to do (cuz they wanted to relise this product). Just my opinion, i HOPE for big changes and fixes, but after TONS OF FAIL in game industry im not gona eat this blindly again
ATM i refuse to play it, i just read forum, i guess in 1 month without big changes i'll stop reading forum also and move on
