Compromised PoE Accounts: Stolen Items and Hacked Accounts - Discussion and Leads

you really dont get how refunds can lead to infinity curr/gear abuse cases?

I understand this perfectly, but according to your logic, we should just forget about it, pretend that nothing happened. It's not even about the theft, God bless them, they can do more. And the fact is that there is no guarantee that this will not happen again. And then what? Forget again. Such things should be investigated as soon as possible, and the guilty parties should be banned at the very least. I am one of those who did not believe in this, today I encountered it. I do not wish it on anyone, it is an extremely disgusting thing. But in fact, we have absolutely nothing, silence GGG, because the holidays are much more important.

2. Want their shit back.
3. Put the blame on GGG so they get their shit back.
4. If they even mentioned they used Third party then they're disqualified from getting their shit back.

anyone who played poe for reasonable amount of time know there is no refunds/rollbacks/item restore. both policy and common sense.

Look at the above replies for your common sense.
I'm not doing any of this to be antagonistic. I fully sympathize with your and everyone elses situation here. I've had it happen to me, I know how it feels.

To you it's common sense, to them it's not.

If in turn it comes out that it really is GGG fault, and there is some vulnerability that can be exploited to do the things that were mentioned here, then I'll naturally apologize. I'm not above admitting my mistakes.

Now my problems are I'm getting constant crashes and they should fix it already.

now how helpful would be if the re-occuring response is that you probably downloaded a driver from a shady cheating site and since it only affects a few people its absolutely the users fault, otherwise the forums would be overflown with it?

obviously bs, but thats just how it feels in this topic. you're probably not someone who uses his PC the first time, and we are not people who use the internet for their first time.

hope ggg is back soon and starts addressing both of our topics.

??? never said anything remotely close to this.
whole situation with hacked & locked for 20+ days accounts during big launch is insane.

But it's not. Why?
Because I was running PoE 2 just fine for a whole week after launch with 0 crashes. Then windows updated on its own, and I started crashing.

Yes. From a technical point, it's on my end, but it's on the studio to optimize their game for the myriad of configurations.

It's 100% PoE 2. It's the only game that crashes my PC.

These are two very different scenarios.

For one, I'm not being unreasonable, nor I'm making arguments from emotion because I wasn't really damaged. Yes it's annoying, but it's nothing compared to being hacked. To me, my situation is just meh. They'll fix it, but I hope they do it soon.

To you it's more than that.

You guys demand answers! Someone to take responsibility! You're angry! Threatening to sue! I mean... Come on. Let's be less disingenuous.

Also, what makes my own claims more believable? Because the only thing I stand to gain is actual uninterrupted play time. I'm not here chastising the studio.

Well, apparently I should, because obviously I didn't tell them my password and email, and IN THEORY even if I did, I would receive email from steam or ggg about someone trying to enter my acc from other place (which I did when I asked friend to do smth few years ago in poe1 on my acc)
Thats the thing, your password and email is most likely NOT required for hacker to steal everything

Sorry it's hard to write in English what I mean that clearly. If the hideout sitting/trades are causing hacks, then that's the game's fault, not yours. Similar happened to me where there were a few weird trades getting cancelled and some expensive items from my stash were gone 3 days after those trades (I got an email about account lock and it did nothing).

First there was just a straight up scammer, seen those many times before already, puts low amount of currency on trade, accepts with my item and thinks I will press accept fast and leaves regardless of trade going through or not.

But also another suspicious trade after that. He doesn't start my first trade. I thought he forgot currency so I start another one without asking further. Then it starts (he didn't move to get more currency so maybe just slow loader). The guy got me to accept a trade that looked normal. But instead of accepting it himself he took away his currency and cancelled trade, no trade happened with him after that. Btw I've never seen someone take away currency from trade like that, like what is the point? I still got replay of what happened. It sounds crazy so no one will believe it but maybe GGG will do a proper investigation at some point if they feel like the burden on their support is too much, and at that point this will help them. Maybe it's not the best place to discuss what happened because it could lead to more hackers trying it but if GGG won't take it seriously then who cares.

Someone says something about trade - some says something about how he had weird trade and knows there is no way anyone accessed his account the normal way for whatever reason.

The next guy makes it a fact - so now its something with the hideout and its GGGs fault.

If i told you it has something to do with lagspikes or whatever - im sure everyone would remember that one lagspike etc.

Dont get me wrong - its still not your fault. Its the fault of some criminal who hopefully gets caught. But that doesnt change the fact that the chance that its GGGs fault is really slim.

Yes, great common sense, that's how it would be in real life. You have something stolen, you go to court, and there, well, excuse me, common sense tells you that the offender should not return your losses))) meme

Actually its not like that in RL.

In RL if the thieve has already sold your things and the third party had no involvement in it chances are you wont get it back or wont even know where it is.

The person responsible for paying you your damages is the person that inflicted them - so in this case the criminal.

Problem is - how do you even calculate the damage and is it worth it to sue - will you ever even find the guy that is probably in some foreign country.
Let's put things into perspective a bit.

Since the first post I made here, there's only been conversations, so I stopped counting.

So far in this thread that's been visible on the front of help:

46 people reported being hacked.

6 people are conspiracy theorists, just saying their own thing.

1 close call that acted in time and managed to prevent the item steal.

14 people that are asking questions.

The conversations started to become a bit frenzied, and changed on each page. At some point it became "THOUSANDS" of people that were hacked, and people kept going with that.

In the conversations followed, people's story turned to "THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO GOT HACKED ON CLEAN WINDOWS INSTALL." An absurd statement, honestly if you take 2 seconds to think about it.

And in the entire thread a lot of people who got hacked themselves reported in their initial posts about using 3th party tools they thought were previously secure.

That too changed as more pages appeared. With people saying "WHAT ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT DON'T USE 3TH PARTY APPS."

The stories evolve the more questions are asked, and the people asking the questions are being vilified for asking.

Some people reported seeing other logins on their steam accounts. Clear case of session hijack.

Some people in the thread I suspect of being new accounts given their ridiculous usernames that are tightly connected to the current scenario being discussed.

I'd love to make a concise compilation, but honestly, it's just disheartening how disingenuous people are, say one thing, then later add a very vital information post facto being brought up in a question.

Sigh.

And you think you can investigate this in a thread just by reports done by people.

My entire point is IF the hacks are related to hideout activity, then this would help GGG. If nothing is wrong then it doesn't matter. I just described a situation that happened to me that generally doesn't happen and others have had similar experiences prior to getting hacked. There are of course other hacking cases too without this kind of an experience. But it's better to start from somewhere than not at all.
