POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Guys, I did a fresh clean install of windows 11 23h2 and it still crashed as soon as I open POE2… something is weird.

I did another DDU and installed latest nvidia drivers - did a memory test with windows (thanks god no errors)

I’m just afraid to try to launch the game again honestly… my temps are okay - CPU and GPU max at 60 65 while gaming.

A fix for those experiencing complete PC freezes on loading screens

Just disable multithreading before you engage with loading screens, has been working for me like a dream.
Recently started a merc Witchhunter and i've got 27 hours on it, not 1 complete PC freeze ever since i began disabling multithreading before engaging with loading screens.

Imagine calling it a fix that you need to disable multitreading every time before loading.

The fix is to rollback to Windows 23H2. I don't understand why people are not doing this and instead spending so much time on the forum and trying out some obscure Github scripts. Just rollback and it will fix the issue for 99.99999% of people.

This thread is way longer than it should be.

Yeah tell Linux users to go back to the old Windows version to fix this problem. Its still not a windows problem, Windows 24h2 is older as the PoE Update, so why does people didnt report it earlier then?

Here is what i tried:

- Turn off Nvidia Overlay,
- Turn off Nvidia Reflex,
- Lighting: shadows only.
- Add poe2 Roam folder as some post suggest.

Never had a crash since.

2 days ago, I tried turn Nvidia Reflex back on, and Lighting with Shadows and Global Illumination, the crash comeback the first loading screen.
Turn off again, and the crash gone, even when i abuse the loading screen, never crash once.

Well let's work on narrowing it down to which is the culprit.

I haven't tried nvidia overlay off but it works for you off (but a lot of AMD users have the crashes too) so it likely isn't that.

I have had reflex off for 2 weeks so that isn't the problem.

I did have lighting set to shadows w/GI like you so I will try disabling that

Haven't heard about the roam folder but that seems unlikely, but we'll see
Someone posted here or in other topic to disable gpu hardware scheduling.

I did it yesterday and had 6 hours without crashes, I will continue testing today. Win 11 24H2, 7800X3D, 4700Ti

If you want to test this:
Settings -> Display -> Graphics -> Advanced graphics settings
Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling to OFF
Variable refresh rate to OFF (not really related but GSYNC work w/o this anyway)

Important! RESTART PC after

EDIT: While yesterday was flawless today first run and crash :) Will try reinstalling 23H2.

It IS a windows problem, and Microsoft has acknowledged the issue as well. There's an official post in reference to this somewhere that was linked in this thread.

The issue with Linux is probably completely different to what Windows users are experiencing.

Downgrading windows to 23H2 takes very little time and it's worth a shot instead of doing some really obscure stuff such as modifying CPU affinity, github scripts, and god knows what else people are suggesting. I'm convinced that a clean install of 23H2 will fix the issue for almost everyone who is experiencing this issue. Sure that there may be a few outliers, but their issue must be something way more niche

Was getting the complete PC freeze on Windows 11 24h2. I have since done a clean install of 23h2 (build 22631.4602 with all the latest updates) and it has solved the problem for me entirely. I've been playing PoE 2 completely crash-free for about 10 days now.

I know this does not work for everyone, just sharing my personal experience.

Important note: Official support for 23h2 lasts until Nov 11 2025. Until that date it will keep receiving updates from Microsoft.

Specs:
Ryzen 5600x
RTX 3060ti

And people already posted that they have the same problem with the old windows version too. And tbh? I dont downgrade a windows version just cause of ONE game when every other game is working fine and trust me, i play a lot of different games on PC. So seems still like a PoE problem when it is in 1 & 2

This has "fixed" the issue for me, FOR NOW. I know it probably won't last but this is the first time that I've been able to play for more than a few minutes since the release. I'll report back here once it starts freezing again. I'm really not hopeful it will last

24H2
5700X3D
4070

edit: the gears stop turning for 1 second then they start again and it fully loads.

edit2: i used over 100 portals and zoning in my testing, and i managed to play for over an hour without issue. I'm slightly more hopeful now. But just in case, I'll see you in a few hours/days when the problem returns.

Forget what I said. I crashed again after about two hours of gameplay. This ain't it chief.

For me this app fix freeze (fow now) https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher
Before that I had freezing once every 1-2h.
I hope it can be fixed, it's not very comfortable to run one more application before that :)

7800x3d
rtx 4080
48GB ram
24h2
