Well i was playing PoE 2 just fine for 9 days. Then i went and updated windows to 24H2 two days ago and its unplayable now. My pc is hard crashing trying to get into town. Sometimes i get to play for an hour before it happens but im thinking it might be best to take a break, so that i dont risk my pc playing poe2.

=(

If you updated within 10 days you can rollback to previous version of Windows 11, i suggest you do it ASAP while you can.

I'm going to do a complete reinstall of windows just to get back to 23H2 this weekend so i can hopefully enjoy my time off during christmas.

Hey guys,

I've spent the last few days trying to find out if I can solve the crashing and rebooting problem.
I tried everything you could find on steam, reddit and here, even on youtube, although they were the same.

My specs

Ryzen 7 5800X
RTX 3070
32GB DDR4
24H2 Windows 11

The only thing I hadn't done, because that was my last solution, was to do a clean install, remove everything and install Windows 11 23H2.

I then installed it because I had no other choice and I really wanted to play on my vacation.

After installing 23H2 I then downloaded the game standalone, updated graphics drivers, VCC++ and that was it.

It runs much better for now, I don't have any more crashes and I could really NEVER watch a stream on the side. Now I can do that without any problems.

I know it's not the best solution and I also know that there are apparently also users who seem to have problems with 23H2 or 10, but it has helped me for now. I will let you know if anything changes.

BTW: Windows has listed a problem with 24H2 itself in which loading games can cause problems, this problem came exactly on 6.12.2024.

Therefore, try 23H2 !

PirateSoftwares's error log shows multiple Shader Compiler Errors during his crashes. Here's a clip from one of his streams where he was crashing constantly and trying all different changes and settings:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2322265173?filter=archives&sort=time&t=0h31m10s

This is where the POE2 game log is located if you want to check what's causing your crashes:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile 2\logs\Client.txt

^Your game log might be saved in a different directory than mine, but this is the most default install and log location for people playing the game with Steam.

If your whole system didn't hard crash, and the game itself just crashes to your desktop with your PC still running, you'll probably see the Shader Compiler Error in that log. If something else is causing your crashes, you'll likely find the error in this log file as well.

The problem is that most people's whole PC's are crashing when the game crashes, and it doesn't allow enough time for the cause of the crash to be logged in the txt file.

Shader Compiler Error:

A shader compiler error occurs when a compiler is unable to compile a piece of computer program source code. This can be due to errors in the code or in the compiler itself.

Shader compilation errors can occur when a processor needs to translate shaders written in a high-level programming language into binary machine code for the GPU to use. This can cause issues when there are thousands of shaders, and hundreds of new ones need to be loaded with each frame. One solution is to compile all the shaders before the game launches.

This is a software issue folks, the POE2 game code itself is either bugged or poorly designed. GGG is the only one that can fix this. Stop beating yourselves up trying to fix a problem that can only be fixed by GGG.

Also - wiping your Shader Cache is pointless, because the game is incorrectly compiling the shaders in the first place. The cache just stores them for faster access. Wiping them won't make the shader errors go away.

So does he have the same issue or other issue? I mean, if they keep ignoring even promoted streamers crashing, we stand 0 chance.

HAs anyone else also had issues with other games and applications? For me I didn't have crashing issues until the 16th after a windows update and since then i've had crashes in PoE but also in world of warcraft and deadlock, although the latter I was able to play by turning all graphics to the absolute minimum.

It even went as far as crashing apps like discord and other background apps, and in event viewer I was getting a lot of errors with the Kernelbase.dll. I've since tried a bunch of things including updating bios, light reinstalls of windows(the way where it doesn't actually delete everything else) but so far nothing seems to fix it for PoE at least. I will try to play some other games without touching PoE and see if the issue starts when PoE first crashes as I rarely had the whole pc crash right away. Although when I did get past the loading screen crash and was able to play for a few minutes the eventually crash did shut down the whole pc and it happened while I was just standing afk in my hideout.

I am at least glad it's not looking to be a hardware issue at least, I even tried running a memtest during the night to check my ram, but luckily didn't seem to be any issues there.

Edit: Seems it's not just PoE for me, other games also crashing.

I have tried everything you can see in the two forum posts and it did not work (from limiting CPU, to different drivers, windows versions, etc.).

I've had no problem in any other game, in any windows version. I can play Indiana Jones cranked up to the max, I play all kind of games from non-demanding, to ultimate quality. Every game works perfect, save for POE.

Important differences between crash and freeze, with Windows 10 there may be some crashes from time to time, upgrading from Windows 11 to Windows 10 fixes the 100% cpu freeze issue

negative. it does not fix it. we have said it 1000 times in this and other threads. there is many many people who are on windows 10 and still freezing. stop the misinformation that it's a " 100 % fix " cause it is NOT.

This forum... 100% cpu problem, noy 100% fix, I only want share mi experience... last post here xD

I am on Windows 10. I never let Win 11 near my system. I am crashing, freezing, and hard crashing since day 1.

I'm sorry, I hope you have luck, I have shared what has worked for me, since I formatted to Windows 10 I have not had any more freezes, I hope it can be of use to someone else

reverting your whole system for one game is just a workaround, not a fix. And a wild one at that for just a single game. Most people won't want to do that.
they don`t know how to fix it yet, just wait, don`t play or if you play pray for your system to not burn. I`m in the same situation.
