Hard crashing PC locks up

Specs:

Ryzen 3700X
RTX 3070 Ti
32 GB of RAM
Windows 24H2

Let me point out that I've had the very same issue with PoE 1 and couldn't ever find a topic on that particular issue, neither any fix or solution. But, as it happened with PoE 1, this started doing it on Act 2 on loading instances in PoE 2 while Act 1 ran like silk. Doing that freezes my whole PC with only the sound glitching and the mouse moving

I have tried closing all the background applications to reduce CPU load the frequency of crashes, but the game still systematically crashes after 30–45 minutes. It seems like this happens when loading an instance in Act 2

Things I've Tried:

Updated all drivers, including GPU and motherboard chipset drivers

Verified the game files via the launcher

Cleared the cache for the game at AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile

Disabled background applications and overlays to avoid conflicts

Tried switching rendering modes: DirectX11, Vulkan, and even DirectX12 Beta

None of these has resolved the problem

If anyone has encountered this issue and found a reliable fix, I’d appreciate any insights. Additionally, if Grinding Gear Games could investigate or provide guidance, it would help many of us facing these recurring problems.

oh im so happy im not alone with that. it was driving me nuts
It is clearly a problem with the cpu usage. Deactivating 2 cores via taskmanager helps to not hard-freeze and be able to quit out of the game, but more than often the problem occures right after the next start... so a pc restart is often necessary. I really hope GGG puts this on the agenda! It is a real problem.

After reading thru some comments, I am trying the Win 7 compatibility mode stuff. I really hope this helps.

Let us know how you get on with the Windows 7 compatibility method, others have been praising it.
Hello. I have a similar problem. When I turn on Multithreading I do not have a smooth game. When I turn off Multitasking I have 30 frames per second. And this is only related to this game. My PC meets the minimum requirements, not long ago the game showed 60 frames per second and even higher, but now there is a frame break. On the game graph you can see constant jumps when multithreading is enabled
My PC: Intel Xeon 2650v2,Nvidia Geforce 1060 6 GB.SSD disk.32 GB RAMM DDR3.
I hope there will be optimization. Because I don't want to play at 30 fps.

i forgot to mention i tried to run both games with the x64 exe with win8 compatibility and admin privilege, it reduced crash occurences without prevent it completely. :(
I crash to desktop every 40 - 60 min during gameplay and loading portal to town, sometimes I get the error message in game : missing textures. Playing @4k max setting, native no upscaling, getting stable 120fps no fps drops.
9800x3d
Rtx 4090
Ram 64gb ddr5 6000 XMP
SSD
Latest nvidia drivers
Fresh windows install
Latest bios for x870e motherboard
Latest AMD cpu chipset drivers, stock cpu no overclock.
Windows 11 professional up to date.
I monitor my cpu and gpu temps are stable no thermal throttling.

This is the only game I crash, playing the latest games with no problems. I was using vsync, will try without.

It would be a good idea to automatically generate a crash report containing details about the error. If the devs wan my crash report and my diag pls let me know where to send the info.
Thank you.
Keep this up top so the devs can see this and the other thread about the same issue!!
I can't get the crash or freeze event logged because my whole system freezes up before it records the error.

I've been trying to get data dumps post-crash, but none are being logged because the game isn't just crashing on the shell, it's locking the whole OS.

Windows 11 (Steam), AMD 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, 32BG DDR4 3200, Samsung 980 Pro SSD

Having the same issue myself, happens after about 30 minutes to an an hour. It will either just flat out shut down the game or ill get a error message that says a texture failed to load. Was thinking about reinstalling but that probably wont do anything lol.
