Hard crashing PC locks up
My game is freezing frequently on load screens, locking my PC up completely and forcing me to do a hard reset.
(in game I have tried to run with all lowest settings like dynamic culling, upscale off ... ect.. as well as trying with just all the default settings which are everything on high with Dlss/flex/dx12 and so on). Operating System: Windows 11 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 26100) (26100.ge_release.240331-1435) Update: 2024-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048667) (last installed) Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700KF CPU @ 3.80GHz (16 CPUs), ~3.7GHz Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Seems I am having this issue ONLY with POE2 and not with any other software and as far as I can tell this has been happing every since launch day although I remember it becoming most frequent during my visits to Act 3 the first time around. |

" Path of Exile 2 has a critical coding failure in its code that makes the game hog all available system resources due improper usage of system APIs, therefore crashing the program AND the PC itself. (Technically it crashes the OS because OS can no longer get the resources it has to in order to function properly). peepeepoo#1611 theorized that "This is an issue with their async thread code resulting in memory violations. It causes an infinite loop trying to read an invalid pointer when loading new levels, which never completes so just eats performance. The reason why disabling some CPU cores works to not cause a complete crash is because processes do not all share the same threads on those cores." But using --noasync and --waitforpreload as steam launch commands did not fix the issue so I do not know if it is true. All we know that this happens for all CPU/GPU combinations (AMD, Intel, Nvidia) and for all OS and OS versions (Win 11 24H2, other Win11s, Win10, Linux) Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam. |

So weirdly enough, after the most recent patch I spent the entire day playing with no more freezing, I changed nothing besides patching the game.
Today however, I noticed the games performance feeling a ton worse for whatever reason and if I had anything else open like a web browser etc the game would start to struggle just loading. Now it doesn't matter what I do, my CPU is peaking 100% usage across all cores when loading into a new zone or starting up and then my entire PC freezes again. Genuinely at a loss as to what is even happening honestly. How can it work one day and then become completely borked the next day. | |
" This is mind blowing, thank you for digging it out. |

" I literally just followed your steps and got still issues on the load. It didn't freeze compeltely but game got frozen so i could alt-tab and end task. CPU was on 100% load. PoE nowadays looks more and more like a fork server with tons of custom weird experimental stuff rather than original game with carefully thought out balance brough live to players. I fixed it
Until today I was able to play POE 2 really well and didn't have a single crash or restart. Then today I did the Windows update to Windows 11, version 24H2 and immediately after playing POE 2 after about 30 minutes I got a freeze and the PC rebooted. After that I reset the version and downgrade to 23h2 and everything worked again. So something must be wrong with POE and Windows Update version 24H2 |

" Debacle of a game launch. Never have I ever felt more robbed by a media entertainment purchase where I’ve spent money and am unable to consume the content. And the fact they’re radio silent makes it so much worse. If there was any transparency or some sort of explanation and subsequent timeline for a fix I’d just fuck off this forum and not rage post. Absolutely mind boggling to me that last epoch can launch in early access by a studio that entirely works from home and be more functional. Last edited by chrisEm119#1403 on Dec 19, 2024, 5:45:28 PM
