Hard crashing PC locks up

"
Are you guys having full PC crashes, or just game crashes?

When my game crashes, it always takes the whole PC with it. Doesn't matter if I'm running the game with Cores 0,1 disabled or not.

It's full pc crashes. Some of the "fixes" make it so only the game freezes and you can still use task manager to close the program.

But the issue seems to be from what others are saying, POE is taking all available cores and utilizing them completely, to the point the OS doesn't have any resources, and it crashes. Which is basically a full pc crash.

PoE showed as PoE1 instead of PoE2 in the NVidia app.
Do whatever it takes to make it show correctly in the NVidia app and you will not have any crashes anymore. Tested it myself, no crash anymore.

Here's some suggested ways to make it show correctly in the NVidia app:
1. Uninstall POE2 and if you have it POE1 as well.
2. Important... delete both POE1 and 2 folders from your Documents/ My Games folder.
3. Do a search on your drive(s) for anything "Path of Exile", highlight all results and delete the files and folders then do the same search for "Grinding Gears" just in case there's any remnants that may be there. Then, empty your recycle bin!
4. Clean your shader cache... empty that sucker.
5. Rerun a scan in Nvidia App and make certain Path of exile is gone from your installed games.
6. Restart windows.
7. Do a fresh install of POE2 only (don't install POE1)

Or

1. Try reinstalling the NVidia app
2. Start the game from the NVidia app

This might have done it for me. Initially when I tried this I did not uninstall the nvidia app. it was still saying POE1. I removed the nvidia app and cleared my appdata of anything that said nvidia. I didnt even restart and just reinstalled. I refreshed the nvidia app and it now says POE2. I have been running fine for a couple hours now so maybe this is a fix for me at least. I will update if the crashes come back. Also I have noticed the CPU usage overall is more smooth. It still does some spiking on load screens, but very quickly comes back down.

I get full crashes.

If you disable cores and still get a freeze that means your system needs more than those cores, try disabling more cores. The number of cores needed to avoid the hard crash is dependent on your CPU, your system's needs, background processes. If the total "unhogged" processing power is more than this requirement your OS do not crash and you can kill PoE2 process by opening task manager.

Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam.

I should not have to scroll to the third page to cope

My game was fine until this most recent update, now my PC freezes

That is what happened to me. I was 50 hours in before the patch and have relative no issues or whatsoever. And then it hard crashed my PC for at least 10+ times over the last 24 hours.
For me, what seems weird is that my video input seems to be gone with the crash as my monitor turn to black screen as it cannot detect input signals.
Still crashing on:
Ryzen 7 5700x3d
RTX 4070 super

W11 24H2

I did every single step and... the game crashed even before the titles screen.
Good thing disabling CPU cores saved me from PC damage.
So "for now" here is the "fix" according to Pirate software and shroud. I haven't had any crashes/freezing but the stutters are still there nothing well fix that with the memory leaks in game confirmed by Ziz. Enable vulkan and turn shadows to high, 8x anisotropic filtering, no upscaling NIS. When the game launches go task manager details and set POE affinity cores and uncheck 0-1. Also select your gpu instead of auto for physx in the nvidia control pannel. I haven't froze all week since this fix but at the cost of my games visuals and performance. 4080s/7800x3d/24H2 windows 11. 70-100fps 3440x1440 all other settings maxed.
The only way I can play this game reliably is to disable all 8 threaded cores and only allow 7 primary cores to run POE2. (I skip 1st primary Core, Core 0, just as a failsafe)

Using 5554 Affinity

^With his affinity setting only my 5800X3D's primary cores are used for POE2 (Skipping primary Core 0 - Only using primary Cores 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14). Ryzen Master shows these as the top performing cores as well (little stars next to them during a CPU stress test). At least on my machine.

AND - using Vulkan. DirectX12 is completely BROKE with this game. I got non-stop texture DXD3D12 errors with DX12. Vulkan is a CPU hog as well, but it doesn't crash with just the primary cores running the game. At least it hasn't so far (only been testing it for about 2 hours)

NOTE - I STILL have Engine Multithreading CHECKED ON in the options menu.

I launch the game by simply using a shortcut I created on my desktop:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "PathOfExileSteam" /affinity 5554 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile 2\PathOfExileSteam.exe"

*****You just have to make sure Steam is shut down completely BEFORE using this shortcut to launch the game, otherwise if Steam is already opened, Steam will launch the game with all cores enabled.******

If you have a 16 Core AMD CPU, this should work on your machine as well. If your PathofExile.exe is in the same exact directory as mine above, you can copy and paste this into your own desktop shortcut. If you want to test this out, go for it. Let me know if it works for you too.

The shortcut automatically opens Steam and then runs the game with only those 7 Primary Cores.

It's basic, but it works so far and it's low effort. Only side affects I have are that Load times are a little bit longer, and some minor stutter when first moving around the zone after a load, but the game isn't lagging at all once I'm loaded in.

I don't need to run any Lasso or Uncrasher or BES any other background CPU limiting programs with this.

For reference, on a 16 core AMD Ryzen CPU, you have 8 primary cores and 8 CMT cores.

Primary Cores are 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14

CMT Core (AMD's version of hyperthreading) Cores 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15

So, I let Windows have all the hyperthreading Cores for the OS, as well as the 1st Primary Core. The rest of all the remaining Primary Cores are to run POE2.

Windows 11 (Steam), AMD 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, 32BG DDR4 3200, Samsung 980 Pro SSD
just adding to the pile, i've been hard crashing since launch as well, multiple times a day. W11 24H2, 4070 latest drivers etc. tried vulkan and dx12 doesn't matter.
