Hard crashing PC locks up

"
GUYS I MIGHT'VE FOUND A FIX FOR NOW

The problem MIGHT be how the windows power plan affects the game, maybe that's why some people have the problem and some dont depending on their plan.

try putting your maximum processor usage in the power plan to 99%, you can do it via lasso too and make a custom plan that activates whenever you launch the game. I tried it for hours and I havent had a single freeze or crash. My PC was freezing all the time prior to this (possible fix).

Tried with a reliable crash character, still crashes. Not a bad idea but as noted just another way to tiptoe around the program freaking out and seizing all the CPU resources. Clearing the dx12 render cache still seems to be the only thing that will make a new character playable in my case.
still the same problem since weeks

amd ryzen 7x7800x3d
gtx 4060 ti
32 gb ram
windows 11
In addition to setting affinity to rest of the cores but #0 and #1 did you try to set the process priority to Low?

To avoid confusion I'll add this information:

1)
When your Maximum Processor State is at 100%, your CPU can ramp up to its maximum clock speed (including turbo boost, if supported) under load.

Dropping this to 99% helps with stability issues from Turbo boost transitions Turbo boost often involves dynamic voltage and frequency changes. Another is that, sometimes CPUs operating at full performance states (100%) may freeze when transitioning between idle and high-load states, especially if the features involved are buggy (Which might be our case here)

When you do this, your entire PC will have its performance reduced. So if you are working with large datasets or do other things that are CPU intensive be careful with that and if your work is hindered know that you can easily switch between the two states using power options without risk as long as you are not doing it constantly which is not really possible.

2)
Removing Core affinities is removing the program's ability to utilize those cores. As a result, those cores will be untouched by the program and when PoE2 does its thing and locks up every core it can use, these cores will still work. Allowing you to kill the process and avoid hard crash. This is a method to stabilize a system that freezes due to excessive resource demands from that program.

Caveat: This will not only cause reduced performance in game, but also might cause (very low probability) damages due to uneven load distribution and voltage issues. Never saw this myself to be honest(because I never had to use it in 20 years), but heard about it.

3)
Shirase and Lasso work similarly. But instead of limiting the number of cores a program can access, they limit the CPU usage for specific processes to prevent them from overloading the system. Lasso also allows core affinity removals but it is a paid program.

They should be risk free to use as long as you know what you are doing. But even if you don't it is really hard to mess up with them.
I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1. I apologize for any unanswered messages.

Hmmm, what I did is I set up Lasso to switch to (bitsum highest performace) plan whenever I launch the game, then I went to windows power plans and I changed bitsum highest performance maximum cpu usage to 99%, now I never have any freezes. So it might be lasso's plan with 99% somehow? can you try?

p.s I used to get freezes every single time I teleport especially to towns, with this workaroud i havent crashed or freezed once.

Power at 99% reduces the frequency at which your CPU operates, effectively downclocking it.

Yes, it obviously has an effect, but its also not a solution. Anything that involves losing performance isn't a solution, but just a workaround.

If you want to avoid freezes, set affinity to don't use CPU0 and CPU1. That way, even if the game freezes while loading, your Windows doesn't.

True, but I dont mind it that much because with it being 100% I get 180 fps (locked) and with it being 99% I still get 180 fps. So for now I'm happy with this temp fix. At least I can play the game without worrying about crashes now.
I thought the servers were overloaded, but I'm stuck with the same issues people report here.

After reaching Act 2 and killing the first boss there, teleporting to the Clearfell Encampment crashes the game entirely every single time.

I suspect the issue started since Windows updated to 24H2.

Just had my first hard lock crash exactly when leaving a map. Stuck at loading screen. Nothing worked, needed to restart manually by holding the PC power button.

Go to the task manager -> right click on POE2 -> go to details -> right click on POE2 again -> set affinity -> deactivate CPU0 and CPU1

i tested it and since then no crashes

Ok just did this since my crash this morning and in my experience this seems to work for me.

Switching zones in act 1 and the game hitched and froze, I was able to switch screens and could see the game freezing with little hitches before the game just close on its own.

This is a MAJOR upgrade from PC lock.

Just a reminder of my personal experience; Acts 2 and 3 DID NOT crash when I played through them, only Act 1.

Your problem is not the main problem we discuss in this thread. Yours is discussed at game crash at teleport threads and luckily is a far lesser problem thanks to no risk to hardware and has some solutions that work(?).

To clarify the main problem here is hard crash freezing everything so that you have to shut down the computer by using the power button and does not have a "trigger"(ie. teleporting)

The solution for your problem is disabling multithreading during each scene change, some people also report using Shirase or Lasso to limit the PoE2 also helps. Hope that this fixes it for you.

IF it is not a bother please do send your dxdiag to the support.
