Hard crashing PC locks up
" Why state something so confidently if it is obvious that you have not read what was written earlier. A bunch of people have an intel-based processor and everyone is facing the same problem of freezing. |

Posting this again since people continue to spread misinformation:
Based on the replies in this thread, reddit, and elsewhere on the internet, as well as examining poster's different PC and Windows configurations, here's what appears to NOT be causing the freezes/crashes: Windows Build 24H2 - people are having freezes and crashes on Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 10 22H2 as well. AMD or Intel CPUs - people with both Intel and AMD CPUs are having the same issues. AMD X3D CPUS - people using regular X AMD CPUs, as well as non-X AMD CPUs are having the same issues. Windows 7 Compatibility Mode is NOT solving the issue for all people. Disabling CPU cores, Undervolting CPU and/or Undervolting GPU are NOT solving the problem for all people. Disabling every graphic POE setting to the most bare bones level or turning them off is NOT solving the problem for many people. Switching the API (DirectX, Vulkan, etc...) is not solving the issues for many people. Nvidia RTX GPUs - people with AMD Radeon GPUs are also reporting the same issues, so it's not exclusive to a specific videocard chipset. ^I've been scanning crash posts around the web for the past few days since launch and trying to single out a common factor to help diagnose this stuff, but I can not find one based on people's PC configurations. All indications are that this is a software issue with Path of Exile 2. It occurs mostly during load situations, but has happened at other odd times as well. My best uneducated guess is that these crashes are caused by some kind of unoptimized shader caching/compiling/fetching on the part of the game itself. Hopefully GGG can figure it out and patch it ASAP. NOTE: This list is just for information purposes only. Windows 11 23H2 (Steam), AMD 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, 32BG DDR4 3200, Samsung 980 Pro SSD

I tried disabling SMT in BIOS and it did make a change. I still crashed once softly and one with complete freeze after almost 6 hours. For that there might be the cache folder grew too big. Could someone else please try disabling SMT or Hyperthreading in BIOS and report if it helped.
Mind that after disabling SMT I didn't receive massive hit to perdormance (if I disable it in game I get under 30 fps). Though even with SMT off performance in hubs is a little disappointing (dips under 60). Yes it is not a fix and more just a workaround and GGG still need to sort things out but at least the game is more playable than not. All I want to know if it is more universal fix or just I was lucky to hit the right button. Last edited by AshySamurai#1105 on Dec 13, 2024, 7:43:13 AM

Been playing for two days straight no issue, then today it started...
Completely unplayable now. Locking up PC. Having to hard start PC. Having to use PackCheck.exe Logging in without a password. Never saving settings. Never saving controller settings. Stuttering. Character locking up. Logging in and cant move. System Model: X670E AORUS MASTER Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor 4.70 GHz GPU: Radeon 6950XT Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable) Edition: Windows 11 Home Version: 24H2 |

Today clearing cache no longer works, and new characters are a guaranteed insta-crash. Just can't play anything anymore at this point.
Welp, that's it for me, requesting a refund from Steam. GL to GGG, I'll swing by in a year and see if they have their stuff sorted, roughly 10+ bangers announced in TGA for the next few months so there won't be any time for this crap. |

I'm not sure what they changed but my PC was just freeze when 1st loading, now it happens randomly even when someone joins my instance :))

Adding on to Stormscourge#2254:
I checked my dxdiag, and the error implies that the problem occurs due to improper usage of system APIs by the application. Therefore it cannot be due to a singular version of Windows. Nor is it a directly hardware related issue. I won't rule out a driver issue but it is unlikely given the fact that we have reports from many different builds with differing parts I do not think it is possible to hit all of them at the same time with the same driver problem. If you save your dxdiag, please search for "P1: PathOfExileSteam.exe" and send that portion here. Maybe we can get something out of it. Now the bad news: The specific errors with kernelbase.dll and crashes are not new for GGG, there are threads with similar crash stories that went to nowhere...
Spoiler
Problem signature:
P1: PathOfExileSteam.exe Below would be: P2: 0.0.0.0 P3: 67544a58 P4: KERNELBASE.dll P5: 10.0.19041.5131 P6: 011921da P7: e0000001 P8: 000000000003b699 P9: P10: P2: 0.0.0.0 A value of 0.0.0.0 usually means the version was not correctly detected or not specified in the file properties. Perhaps this is the problem? Maybe some exe files are faulty? (Should be impossible but... To clarify: Maybe we got the wrong exe files during preload. This is me grasping at straws that are not there though...) P3: 67544a58 This is the build timestamp of the exe itself in hexadecimal format. (Saturday, June 17, 2024, 03:56:56 UTC.) e0000001 suggests the error originates from how the application interacts with the OS, rather than an underlying hardware fault. (Does not mean this is not a driver issue though) 000000000003b699 is the location of the problem on Kernelbase.dll itself. Typically such crashes arise from improper usage of system APIs by the application. I cannot send/reply to direct messages because my in-game character has not finished Act 1.
What to do: 1)Write a short review about the hard crashes in notepad. 2)Copy and paste it to steam reviews, put up a negative review. 3)Copy and paste it to steam discussions, put it up there. |

I played for 2 days with no crashes and then it started again this morning.
The ONLY difference is the last few days I have been in acts 2 and 3 and this morning I started my second play of act 1 again in the higher difficulty and the freeze happened porting from Grim Tangle to the Cemetery. Could be something, could be nothing, just updating my experience with this hard freeze. I5 13400 RTX 2070 super Pure Summoner Witch Build inc

While waiting for a patch, if you want to at least fix the PC freeze problem, disabling thread 0 & 1 for POE2 fixed the problem for me!
I no longer have any PC Freeze, the game still crash occasionally, at worst I need to kill the app from the task manager. Another thing that helped is to have a fresh starting PC and just launch POE2. To do that just press CTRL+Alt+SUPP and click disconnect then reconnect to your account, this will close any extra app in memory. |
