DO NOT make your own build in EA
One of the most fun things you can do in a game like this is make your own builds.
I've not had a lot of time to play this year, so every league I 100% started with a guide and usually intended to then do my own thing after I've gotten some currency but noticed I hadn't done that in ages. So I tried just playing a new character in PoE 1, not planning ahead with pob, just playing and going from there. Honestly while no where near meta the build did just fine and even over performed compared to my expectations in many instances. |

" I am glad it worked out nice for you. But what content did you manage to see with it? |
|
" Ever heard of trial and error? For some people the journey is more important than the destination. The satisfaction of achieving something through your own merit is much greater than if the goal is all but handed to you on a silver platter. I get it, you're the kind of player who automatically chooses easy mode in every game you encounter and that's fine. What isn't fine is you projecting this defeatist attitude onto others. |
|
" Now that you mention it, I did not stress test it against more difficult content, I just assumed based on what I know and see that it would be fine. I'll play it some more tonight and see how it fairs and give a more comprehensive answer tomorrow. But in general all the builds I messed around with in the past that weren't great were able to do most content with enough investment. Those were aided with pob though. Sorry, I haven't play poe1, poe2 is my first. So what you mean is for a new player like me, I can't choose what my build and I have to follow a pre-made build to be strong ?

" I perfectly understands you. I cannot actually play the game without this tool. I HAVE to be sure that at least the numbers turn out to be decent. (I cannot play it, without price-checking assistant either.) I am absolutely sure your now that your build is decent. But I doubt that the majority of players will do download such a tool, prototype the build and get positive result at the end. I think it will more look like: search the word "minion" > pick the nearest nodes > do white maps. |
|
" You can choose my friend. Try no to think for this as "strong" and "weak". Pick something that you like. You like shooting people with bow? Go with it. You like to be mage? Or maybe warrior with shield and mace? Pick one. There are no bad choices. Play few days, maybe few weeks. Try to "feel" the game. But when you start to feel that you want more. To do more stuff. Different stuff. To kill faster. To kill stronger enemies. Take a look around. There are ZERO REASONS to follow someone else's build, if you are happy your own. But if you are not... I recommend to you that you check other builds out. Some of them are quite "unique" and give you completely different feeling. As if you are playing another game! |

PoE nowadays looks more and more like a fork server with tons of custom weird experimental stuff rather than original game with carefully thought out balance brough live to players.

but you have half a year of time worth trying to make something and if fails - follow some guide after. My life in gaming has always been about trying things out.
NO i will not follow your guides, nor do i have the intention to be a 'top player'. Certainly not with a new game, you should embrace these rare moments that we discover a new game instead of following you favorite 'influencer'his gameplay. Also, my perception is that most players dont even play to the end, even if they followed buildguides. Just look at the achievement percentages of steam players.
