The Self Found League

I have quit PoE because there is no support for self-found play and no real acknowledgment of the widespread demand for a self-found league.
Perhaps my getting hung up on crafting is because that particular system is one of the only ways that PoE differentiates itself. Pretty much every other system in the game is one I've seen before in one game or another. This is not a shot at the devs, though. Let's face it, there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do with hack'n slash to really stand out. While the skill system may be a different take within the genre, it's still something we played in the 90's.

Really the only thing I see in PoE that truly sets it apart from other games in terms of interesting and unique mechanics is the currency/crafting system. I just think it's horribly wasted as the game stands right now and that SFL is a prime opportunity to change that.

A question.. why exactly would increased currency hurt Trade? Note that the reliance of Exalts as a trading currency is due to its rarity. Increasing it, for example, would simply shift that currency to another item, like chisels. It will cause a temporary disruption (but ANYTHING you do will cause that) followed by market stability as people get used to the New Normal. Worst case, Doubling the currency drops will mean a 5 EX item will now cost 10 EX, but will take the same amount of effort to obtain via trade.

I now believe that we can increase currency drops in a modest way to encourage their use without killing the trading system outright. As such, an idea like that would be doable in a regular league.

@Couragous

Your luck idea is basically a 100% boost to IIR/IIQ along with a 100% boost to crafting. A rose by any other name.

Personally, I'd rather we balance the difficulty around 4Ls and non-top gear than making it easier to obtain top gear. It's an idea that even Trading servers need as Top Gear should be a luxury, not a necessity. GGG seems interested in this sort of mentality.

There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.

This game really isn't for people like that.

This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr

Depending on how it's implemented, it could be a lot more powerful than 100% boosts to Q/R and crafting. Anyway, I presented it merely to avoid the problem of too much stuff dropping when bosses die. It's already a huge issue, and big Q would make it worse. If that were not an issue, the expression I would use here would be "6 one way, a half a dozen the other."

I agree with this. I still think, however, that GGG would be more likely to increase currency in SFL over Default, for any meaningful increase in currency drops.

I would switch leagues in a heartbeat even if the only change was increased currency.

Crafting is fun, and i should want to spend my orbs crafting. Still having not found an exalt after i don't know how many hours of playing... i mean, if i get one, i'm not going to use it on an item. I should want to though.

Current currency drop rates in Default/Standard league are pathetic.
Awesome idea, please do it GGG.

Actually one of the numerous reasons why Diablo 3 went bad was the massive and forced use of Auction House. It would really be sad to see PoE to share the same fate.

To be honest, I think the only people crafting in this game are the really really hardcore gamers and farmers, the ones who can/have time/like to farm again and again to have a huge amount of currency.

I'm a hardcore gamer but I have not so much time. I have found maybe 20 chaos, 8 GCP and 1 exalt in my whole PoE career. The thing is, at my level, it is a HUGE waste to craft with these currencies. I can buy incredible items for quite cheap prices. On the other hand, i MUST buy those items or my characters have really bad gear and get raped in higher difficulties.

So, currently, if I do not use trading, I have to choice between:
- using the few currencies I have to try to craft, taking the risk to spend much more of them than if I just had bought an item with trading
- farm for ages, hoping to find THE item I need, with the good stats, the good amount of sockets, and the good colors. No, sorry, but with my 40 chromatics, I just cannot afford to reroll socket colors until I have the one I need and I cannot afford to reroll the number of sockets until I have the one I need and I cannot afford to reroll the links of sockets until I have the ones I need.

So it is extremely cheaper to just trade the exact item I need.
I really would love a Self Found League with increased currency drop.
It could be THE BIG THING PoE has and not other hack'n'slash games.

I would love to see self found / crafting league!

Dont give a straight increase to IQ and IR it just means the ground will be littered with items, picking up all the rares will mean going back and forth to town often and a stash full of the low end currency.

Just increase the drop rate on chaos, exalt, alc, chroms, fuse, jewelers, divine, blessed ect.
leave trans and alts, we have enough of those.

we can then craft rather than find.

I am thinking a huge boost to currency. so in 3-4 hours you can farm 1 exalt pure, maybe 10-15 chaos. 20-30 dozen jewels, chroms, fuse, alcs.

we have no reason to hold the currency other than the craft with.

Make Mirrors and the new eternal orb extremely rare.
possibly don't implement the eternal in this league or crafting will be too easy.

A few have said just leave trading in and the economy will balance. the ability to trade is the problem. I want a lions eye glare, ill stock pile the currency and buy one. that is the fastest way. I would prefer to chance it but I know many say "its your choice!" use chance orbs instead of buying. I cant have fun when i know i am not being efficient, if i waste 10ex worth of chance and dont get one ill be pissed as i know there was an alternative.

straight up remove trading, inc high end currency drops.

I would like to see these as permanent leagues both SC and HC (i play HC)

The other option is to have "none trading characters" in the current leagues and the drop rate for those individual characters in increased. (not sure how possible this is)

I would play a none trading char every time! The AH is why D3 sucked soo bad!

Some people don't want their only option for getting to additional loot to be crafting. If you read the whole thread, you can see that many people agree that increased currency drop ought to be a characteristic of the league. But not the only characteristic.

We all agree that more drop clutter is probably not the best solution. It is, however, easy. A better alternative would be better drop "quality," where increased quality means more likely 6S, higher link probability, and better item mods. However, it's really difficult to characterize that, and furthermore, it's super hard to even define what better quality item mods even means. What each character is looking for is rather subjective, after all.

Make Mirrors ... extremely rare.

Why? What are you envisioning that the Mirror is good for, if you cannot trade?

The underlined portion makes me feel bad. That wasn't intended as a directive so much as a friendly suggestion to join this ongoing discussion. Apologies if it came across otherwise, Brootus.
