The Self Found League
You are welcome. In fairness, your assumption that IIQ on your gear would do that is entirely reasonable. If there were no documentation to the contrary, it would be... rather shocking. When you think about the design problems they face for the end game content, and how they would have to balance things, however, it is also not surprising that they made this decision.
--C p.s. regarding your addendum to your post, maps > 71-72 are thought by the community to be a bit of an end game problem right now. I suspect more tuning is forthcoming. The best way to look at the situation is a soft-cap on level. I know some players that when they get to level 80, they stop worrying about deaths entirely, and change their play style to farming or what not. See where that's going? +1 for a no trading league (solo or otherwise).
I have not traded at all in the game so far and I'm very happy with it, would be nice to have a league where I can actually compete though ;) |

" The default leagues for everyone will still be Default/HC which will be Trade centered. The folks who seem to want Self Found are more anti-social than anything. In the least, they are already hooked. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr |

" I fear you may be missing a small part of the explanation, Boondock. I believe that your personal IIQ bonus does, in fact, apply to all things that are not map drops. I think your IIQ from gear still helps with currency and item drops. It is entirely possible, however, that it is I who have misinterpreted here. I haven't the experience or depth of knowledge of PoE game systems to be entirely sure, I simply read Corageous' explanation a tiny bit differently than it appears you did. |

" Well I just assumed he was exasperated upon learning that IIQ does not help maps drop. Running 52% IIQ on maps is a very good thing: it will increase currency drops in particular, which of course are what we use to make maps better... so that they will have better map drops. --C |

You're likely correct, Courageous. Posting that, however, afforded me three opportunities:
1 - to clarify a potential misunderstanding on the part of another player. Always a good thing, in my opinion. 2 - to learn that it is, in fact, I who am mistaken, and thus clarify a misunderstanding on my part. Another good thing. 3 - Keep this thread on the first page a tad bit longer without the "bump" that I find so annoying. More exposure to players who may be interested in a self found league is also a good thing. So, while the reply may appear pointless or unnecessary, there is always madness to my method ;) Last edited by Thaelyn#0781 on Apr 26, 2013, 11:06:23 PM

I like saying "there is a madness to my method".

Yeah, I'm up for a Self Found League with boosted GOOD item drop rates and chances on currencies.
Skip the rest if you don't want to read a rant. It's absolutely ridiculous after reaching level 66 with my Shadow I still do not have ONE half decent piece of gear for ANY of my characters. I do not want to trade for something because, honestly the economy of this game confuses me and from what I hear everything is 10s of exalts anyways. In my time playing I've seen one exalt, that unfortunately wasn't mine. However, even if I could understand and more importantly, afford to trade I still wouldn't like to because it's much more enjoyable to actually find good loot yourself. Isn't that what these ARPGs are all about? Finding awesome loot? I can sort of understand the abysmal drop rates and chances on currency items as attempts to keep the economy in check. The thing though is that is.... EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED IN THE EARLY DAYS OF DIABLO III!!!! Now I never played D3 (except for the demo) but I distinctly remember (when the game was first released) people complaining that good loot to progress through inferno was pretty much impossible to come by. The only way to progress was to be EXTREMELY lucky or pay for it. I fail to see how Path of Exile is any different. Sure there's no RMAH, but I'm sure there are 3rd party services offering PoE items for real money. Now of course there were conspiracy theories that Blizzard made drops horrendous to force the use of the RMAH, but whether true or not, the underlying mechanics of the loot system were hated by the community and PoE seems to be getting a free pass for doing much the same thing. It should not be impossible to find good enough loot to progress through the game. I should not have to piggy-back on parties to get me through content because I simply can't find any good loot. End-game items can stay absurdly rare, they're something to strive for after all, but it should not be as difficult as it is to find beginner and intermediate level items. I want to like this game and I'll continue to play at least until I've done some maps, but I don't know how much longer I can put up with the imbalance of the game and the lack of diversity in a skill system so complex that how that happened baffles me to no end. |

Regarding your rant and trading, you can get extremely good items while leveling for 1-2 chaos. As for higher level stuff, if it's not "coveted, end game," you can do very well for 1-2 GCP, typically. Lower end, but reasonably useful 5L chest pieces are now about 1EX. All of that is in "equiv," which means you don't specifically need chaos, GCP's, or EX to do the trade, just a total amount of currency adding up to that. All of those cited currency values are things that one can reasonably expect to save for.
One bit of info that's extremely important to know is that the trade channels are really not the place to trade, except for small errata that aren't worth PM'ing people for. The real way to find stuff is to head over to poe.xyz.is and do a search. Once you find someone there, you should check their last active date, so you're not leaving offers on items to people that have quit playing. For small stuff, I find IGN's and cycle through until I find someone who's online. For bigger stuff, I often make about 3 offers in parallel on different items, and see which one's stick. This is all kinda a pain, obviously. But it's not really that hard. So if you're not someone who is a self-found purist, I'm just giving you some advice on how to work through that little obstacle course. Hope this helps. --C Last edited by Courageous#0687 on Apr 27, 2013, 10:40:14 AM
