From 148k to 66k in two weeks

Yes, not being able to trade with players adds extra challenge. SSF was made because people wanted it to be made. It wasnt GGG idea.

To be honest i never played pure standard over an extended amount of time because i lose interest in both base game or league fast on average.

True there are these 3.15 changes to support gems that affect long term non-league players.

But i (my personal opinion of course) thinks the league rewards and unpolished aspects of the league itself may be a main reason for the massive player count dent in one week.

But the league is great when your build kills fast enough - the gameplay is awesome and the rewards were pretty good even before the nerf. You just need to get 100+ stacks in each map to get them - the people complaining can't, or at least not effortlessly.

It's not that the players complaining about that can't, it's just they don't bother to grind hundred of hours to be able to play their builds, or maybe they don't want to play the op meta build ?
some people just want to play a build they enjoy, but GGG destroyed most of builds and now you have to play meta or die trying not to (or of course, you can farm 300h+ to be able to do content that can be beaten naked on op meta build).

it's just BS but hey, as long as we have those sweet juicy clips and streamers playing h24 it's okay i guess ?

No one grinds hundreds of hours to play their build. But a few hours of grind here and there are kind of required of the genre in general - that's what ARPGs are about, after all.

The 'play their build' part I fully agree with though - that was one of the biggest draws of PoE, it got butchered in 3.15 and the game is a lot worse ever since then.
Yeah, this is not a great looking trend for GGG that's for sure. 42% of players have abandoned the game in the first 9 days so it's not Expedition levels of bad, but it's not far off.

On the good news front, player volumes started quite high and are still around 87K which puts it in the company of Harvest and Heist but I would expect to see a similar pattern in the data from Expedition with a continued rapid decrease in player volume and proportional abandonment rate.

It's obvious that the magical results of Ritual and Ultimatum are not being realised with the new direction that GGG have taken the game in. Whether the revenue outcomes are any different in this league, we may or may not know.

I think the only real conclusion we can draw from the recent league starts, is that for Expedition and Scourge, player expectation did not match reality for a very significant proportion or the player base.

At least when the game was more accessible, the elite players thought it was too easy but they did keep playing the game. When GGG swings the other way and made the game less accessible, the elite players still feel that the game is too easy while the more casual players have apparently found something else more rewarding to do with their time.

Many people do or did until 3.14 came around.
i'm regretting supporting this game. Owners and executives didn't deserve one single dollar. They deserve to go bust after this.

the worst 3 leagues retention-wise has to be between harvest, expedition, and scourge. synthesis isnt even worth an honorable mention anymore (ty cuz i actually liked that league)

the biggest problem with scourge is the rewards. the risk isnt worth it. its not worth dying for and its not worth potentially bricking your items

i agree, from best arpg to worst arpg in 1 year

In literally one week no less, because if you look at any previous league its clear the numbers of players continue to grow exponentially each day as the league progresses, so obviously the game is dead in the water at this point, time to pack it in folks.....
I skipped 3.15 and got jebaited by the 3.16 hype, like many of you, but the absolutely stupid changes to movement skills, support gems and flasks are still there, making the game feel clunky and awful.
And if they ruin other acts like they ruined act 1 and refuse to introduce some form of an alternate leveling system then it will be time to uninstall for good.

It's mind blowing how we went from amazing patches like 3.9 and 3.13 to this.

yeah I do agree with that, controlling myself feels very clunky until your build starts to 'work' then it's all back to normal. I feel like quicksilver isn't even worth it anymore lol
