Energy Blade thoughts

If 80% less max energy shield is calculated after applied increases to max energy shield. Then yes, the loss of ES too much.
5k ES = 1K ES with buff

But how often does it get applied in that manner.
for example: normally having X increased max leech and X decreased max leech just counter each other.

My guess is that having 100% increased max energy shield from passives is just going to drop to 20% increased max energy shield.
5k ES = 3K ES with buff.

In which case, the buff could be worth it.

Guess we won't know until we get the gem and test it out.
maybe we can craft the energy shield sword :p

Usually GGG is pretty deliberate in their wording, and the use of "less" as opposed to "decreased" means its going to hurt as much as we initially thought it would.

How do you maintain them when you constantly take dmg? Once es goes too low in a hard fight you can't cast them anymore?

it's a toggle. Once you turn it on it's always on.

Agree that less and reduced(decreased) are not treated the same..forgot about the wording for a second.
"Increased and Reduced are additive, More and Less are multiplicative."

Bummer.
Probably the one use that I can see in endgame is toggling it on to get a fat ignite, then toggling it back off (ignites DO snapshot). So probably an elementalist

Also inquis battlemage leveling/mid-game and maybe fast leveling if you dont care about upgrading weapons and just go swords + ele

The three things I can see with it rn.

If you are going to toggle on/off to boost a single hit for ignite damage. You will need something to make the hit lucky. Else you could get a crap roll.

But it is an idea...Say Inq/Battlemage + Discharge + Stormfire.
Getting 100% ignite is not hard...especially with the new passive tree changes.
That would be a huge ignite boost

Lightning masteries are really strong, you can get lightning hits from non-crits are lucky on a single lightning mastery instead of having to go for a cluster jewel. Of course, lightning clusters do nothing for ignites....but its a game changer for SSF or early game.

I just might start the league with storm brand inquis with energy blades and rush battlemage and lightning masteries. should be ez to get into red maps with close to zero investment.
Two things for attack based energy blades...

First thing use Pyre ring with a tiny bit of fire damage to get enemies destroyed. At first I was thinking Three Dragons for chance to freeze.

Second thing have a mana guardian giving you 8k or w/e extra ES in your party to turn your weapon from a 600 dps weapon to a 2k dps one. I guess this would work with spell cast battle mage versions too.

Totally expecting this skill to get nerfed in the first weeks because of mana guardians or anything else people can figure out to abuse with it.

I'd also be interested to see what people think is the best ascendancy to run energy blades as melee. Sense I'm planning cyclone version I have to go slayer str stacking geofrys route I think.
