Energy Blade thoughts

mh, that answers some things, but doesn't really help our cause :D
"Buff grants 80% less maximum energy shield"

Was thinking about the buff. If we have any way to reduce buff effect, we would have more maximum ES and also more lighting damage (since its based on the remaining ES)

i just dont know any gear or support skill with reduced buff effect. any help?
Really hoping that lvl 20 skill has 60 % less Energy shield or very least 70 % less energy shield.
Maybe crest of desire to scale gem level with whatever es levels.

You start competing with 20 chaos rare weapons at 4000 ES which already requires a lot of investment on top of which you have to invest in damage nodes appropriate for your skill or spell as well.

Unless you find a way to play with 1000 ES, you have to get 5000+ life as well.

Going Battlemage also won't help because even 10K ES ends up being worse than a +3 spell levels, spell damage, crit, cast speed, block staff.

Unless someone manages to wizard a borken amount of ES at 30K+ it'll never be a part of a top tier build.

Its for sure not the best build, not a starter, or cheap, but i want to make it work. =)

Intelligence stacking with: HoWA + shaper gloves + mask of demon = flat life, flat lightning damage, % inc ES, flat accuracy for each point in intelligence

if i go jugger, i can stack accuracy too and get % attack speed, and another source of flat lightning damage from windbreak boots, also %inc damage from other sources like divergent accuracy gem.

on gear you look for flat ES, int, and %inc acc if going jugger

another great option is trickster, cause shaper gloves also gives high % inc evasion, and 0 mana cost cyclone

*also use supercharged on cluster jewel, and corrupted soul like Moumout mentioned, and other sources of % maximum life added as extra maximum ES

there are a ton of legacy vaal regalias with 1100+ es for not much investment. Getting there in league ... we'll see what the new bases have on them and how costly it is to sacred them up.

Will this see the return of HoWA CI juggo using say Lightning Strike or Cobra Lash with chain?

@Atech would like to see that as well, +quality = you get to keep a little more of your base ES.

It's NOT looking like a starter skill off the strand though. Unless you can wangle 200+ ES out of a simple robe somehow.

This is a dangerous skill for leveling, so I can see how they erred on the safe side here.

I think it becomes busted for something like inquis battlemage after first lab and if you can pick up some es gear

something as common as ambus charge gives you 160 * .20 (buffed es base values)= near 200 es on chest alone

at level one gem that is 120 flat lightning damage 1h weapon, which is equivalent to a T2 lightning roll on a wand...just off your chest slot with no %ES rolls and nothing else.

And it is dangerous because it literally doesn't care about your weapon and introduces a certain baseline weapon crutch off any white weapon.

Builds using very high level corrupting fever in a 6link, the cast requires more life than a character can possibly get, so they would get one focus item amulet with crafted mod skill cost no mana while focus, when entering a map, cast with no mana then using life cost skills or life tap supported skills to refresh the duration of corrupting fever.

That method would be perfect for energy blade, since it's a buff effect skill and presumably stay on forever, you don't actually have to use those gear, just get one cast the buff with then switch it off, it's not even a compromise.

You're talking about snapshotting, and no- the buff is updated real-time and since it doesnt have stack refresh and solely depends on your max energy shield, it wont snapshot.
I've been trying to figure out how to make this skill work (it looks awesome) and I really can't at these numbers. If you invest enough into ES to get respectable damage from it, the 80% ES loss is going to leave you with very little defense. I'd say you want at least 2k ES remaining to make Energy Blade feel worth it, which means you need to start at 10k ES...you either have very little life/defenses at that point, or you've dumped tons of currency into the build and probably could have gotten a better return elsewhere.

I think they need to add in a way to reserve ES, base the damage off the maximum ES, and possibly nerf the damage to compensate. If we could gear for 2k ES max with similar damage, and watch our ES go to nothing, I think that would make it much more playable. They could even have it reserve 100% of ES, as long as we can get some decent damage from it without having a massive ES investment.
