Bugfixing requires time and money, and also has diminishing returns. If they spent an extra month testing each league and went to a 3-leagues per year cycle, then you might find that each league would be as buggy as it typically is a few days into the league on the 4-month cycle. Bugfixing in a live environment is significantly more effective. If you're typically unhappy with the way the league is in terms of bugs until a month into the league, then its probably the case that they could bugtest each league for years and you wouldn't be happy with the outcome.
They could do betas, as they have in the past, and have better results. If they spent a month doing open beta testing before launching the league, then the end-result would probably be similar to the state of a normal league 2-3 weeks in, depending on the number of players the beta pulls. They've said before that they don't like doing beta tests because it massively decreases the number of people who play the league when it launches. From my perspective, playing a buggy beta for a month and then playing a 3-month league is basically equivalent to playing a buggy league for a month and then playing for two more months. The latter is preferable even because there isn't a reset. If it also means that POE gets a lot more players and a lot more money for development, then its a no-brainer which option I support. |

Hello everyone.
You can also log in a few weeks after starting the league. Many of us play from day one and the small errors that may appear are perfectly acceptable. It is not as dramatic as it sounds. |

How dare you saying GGG won't quadruple test!
Do you really think they work months on a expansion, adding this and that feature like you are adding cooking ingredients into your soup? You are just underestimating the pure amount of test data and exploiting potential of all players. No company can supply tester like gamers. Suddenly there are thousands people trying out stuff in every possibility. And than there are a lot of people just trying to break the game, hardcore exploring/exploiting the game, for weeks, 12 or more hours a day. And they will find something interesting. PoE isn't a 100 lines code script you can assure every possibility. |

" Exactly, but the law of diminishing returns also means that you get a notable effect for low to moderate investment, and a few times there were bugs you would miss only if nobody has played through the campaign even once. I'm no expert but it would seem that if something along those lines happens, you're far from the part of the curve where diminishing returns start to kick in, to put it mildly. I don't think anyone expects zero bugs, anything even remotely close to that would be extremely unrealistic, but I'd wager that major gamebreaking bugs do hurt their retention numbers. However, even if the returns aren't diminishing, maybe the cost is more than the projected income from less players leaving the league even on low end of the curve, I don't have the numbers for that. Still, there is more to it than immediate numbers, and much bigger companies had to learn the importance of player goodwill in playing the long game. Personally, I hope that the next time they do a league they will release 50 new notable or 50 new crafting mods instead of 250 and use the time it took to test those into testing the core gameplay. Most of it is fluff anyway, so make it 50 and make it a good 50, they should know pretty well which ones players want by now. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" 1) Excellent advice! Who would play if everyone will "login 3 weeks after league start"? 2) "Perfectly acceptable "small errors"? :D How many league starts did you witness? Remember, suffering is convenient.

" dude back in 2012 we had alpha realms for alpha members, that was all the way up to incursion, chris himself mailed that their local team is big enough now. I buy before to help them work on the 3.12 and 2.0 NOW. a small team works ok current league, while 80% work on non released content. No Problem,

" answer: 1) if it bothers you so much, then wait 3 weeks. 2) all leagues, it actually got better and better and smoother. think /oos, kick, only ffa mode, 4 difficulties (alpha). No Problem,

" Didn't ask you but i'll reply. 1) A LOT of stuff doesn't bother me in PoE In contrary to A LOT of whiny people. And, for example, people who can't read the description of the challenge but spamming "not a"bug reports. But that was not the point. 2) I didn't say it gets worse from league to league. Just decided to check, if the player whom i've replied to, had witnessed some fantastic "small, not-so-dramatic-errors" from several leagues' starts. Remember, suffering is convenient.
