im not saying you guys should suffer. just do it in a different league.
you guys can have no death penalty, harvest craft without balance, LITERALLY ANYTHING YOU WANT in that league. just don't ruin the PoE standard difficulty. removing death penalty ruins the original difficulty part of the game, that's the issue i have. changes to the dev's intended difficulty. what's outdated in PoE is that it offers no EASY mode. in a complex game like this it deserves the league spot i believe. It's a fair suggestion but the problem is the game isn't designed to be that fractured. I don't think it's as simple as pushing a button and bam, death penalty removed for THIS 'league' but not others. I do know that Chris never had any intention of private/custom leagues being 'easier' than Standard in any way, but when he said that, there was no such thing as a void league. So the big fear was that people would customise an 'easier' version of PoE, farm gear, and then bring it to Standard.
Of course, that was before all sorts of other things happened to taint Standard irrevocably as well. Beside the point; to my knowledge, GGG still hold the belief that custom leagues are 100% about increasing difficulty, not simply 'customising' the game to your own tastes. I find this ties in with this lingering and largely unfounded self-image PoE has of being HARDCORE. If GGG themselves could find some way of shedding that image, that belief, without compromising everything that is great about PoE, then maybe PoE could finally grow into the incredible game it always had the potential to be. Not just for its committed players, but for anyone who enjoys ARPGs. I've lost count of how many people I know, friends who love ARPGs, who are real Diablo veterans like myself, but gave PoE the flick because they caught whiff very early on of its own unpleasant gatekeeping. It doesn't take a genius to see that if you are going to commit to PoE, you're really going to commit. You're really going to care. And when/if you die for whatever reason, and you lose that chunk of experience just like that, it's going to sting. And not in the 'crap, I fucked up, I can do better' way, but in the 'wtf just happened, that was a waste of time' way. The ultimate response to this is some form of 'get good', which might encourage some but will probably just dissuade many others. This masochism, this twisted belief that if you can endure enough of the game's bullshit you're somehow better than other people, is not why some, maybe even most, people play games. But it is, I think, why a lot of the people who do play PoE act the way they do. Anyone who thinks there isn't a smugness to being good at PoE hasn't been paying attention at all. And that attitude cannot, will not, tolerate suggestions that maybe the game's difficulty regarding death is actually poorly designed -- because it was that very design that made them as good as they are. Good at putting up with and thinking around bullshit game design, certainly, but still good at it. How dare you take that away from them!? Account sharing/boosting is a bannable offence. the issue is the WTF moment is usually caused by player side running mods they can't handle.
let's just be clear that players are making things more dangerous and killing themselves. MOST of the time. and it's just coming from the game being too complicated for regular players. so it is players fault BUT the game is TOO complicated so it is kind of unfair. the time it takes to learn poe mechanics is soo long that you can go to college and get a degree or two. (1000s of hours) that is stupid hard to do for regular players. but that is the intended difficulty and should not be any easier. So it is a reasonable request to ask PoE devs to offer easier mode like china server. They can, and they should. |

" That is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge can of worms that not even I'm going to touch. But I will say this: I suspect the changes/improvements we have glimpsed of the domestic/Chinese version of PoE are one-way. After all, our biggest fears when Tencent bought GGG was that the International version of PoE (i.e. ours, the original) would be somehow affected by the 'dirty p2w' version that the Chinese playerbase would receive. Who would have thought they'd actually be getting a 100% superior version of the game? Well, it makes sense -- p2w generally brings in more cash by being more appealing to more casual players. So you take this clunky, 'hardcore' ARPG and you streamline the shit out of it. Make it easier to understand for players to grasp. And you put a pricetag on everything you can, then you laugh all the way to the bank or, possibly in this case, the state treasury. Account sharing/boosting is a bannable offence. " Cool, thanks for that. " I never did understand why the difference between HC and SC was reduced to just "your char goes to SC if you die in HC". Since GGG made all mods in HC be the same as those in SC, they could really also make SC more casual friendly and keep HC as hard as dedicated gamers will accept. " I fully agree. There are several aspects to PoE which make this attitude sound silly: 1. They do have an easy mode vs a hard mode. But it's not SC vs HC, it's "OP build of the league" vs "all other builds". The current real split is due to incredibly poor balancing, while it should really be a league design choice as it was way back when. 2. If you want to be hardcore and unforgiving, then you yourself must be damn close to perfect, otherwise you're just a prick. It's why SJWs get so much flack. Translated to PoE this means if you take away player's progression, then it must certainly not be due to a bug or gfx overload or incredibly poor balancing. If you put so many damage multiplying mechanics into your game that one unlucky monster hit can be literally 100 times harder than a common hit, then you should not have hardcore elements in your game, at least not in its default mode. In its current shape, the unforgiving aspects of PoE just push players to play unchallenging content if they can't tolerate bugs and seriously bad rolls of the dice. How is that hard core? May your maps be bountiful, exile

Please remove softcore.

" Yeah no one would QQ because not enough people would play the game to pay for the servers. I guess that would also be a way to solve the problem. May your maps be bountiful, exile
