Looks like a lot of players don't want to play tower defence.
" Wrong. Steam charts are garbage and don't reflective the playerbase at all. Especially considering the majority of players hate the steam client and will vehemently not use it. Especially with the negatives associated with it for PoE (patching issues, can't pre-dl expansion torrent, etc). Oh yea? And where is your evidence at? You guys like to talk about this magical playerbase that exists outside of Steam like its larger than the steam playerbase and I dont have a clue where you get your information from. Are there even any games played on Steam with a larger playerbase outside of Steam?
Being released on Steam is what shot this game into the stratosphere of popularity. So I find it hard to believe theres some giant playerbase outside of Steam, when the Steam release had, and has, such a large impact on the game's success. This is the kind of conjecture people try to use when people have actual stats, like Steam charts. You talk about the imaginary man in the sky, or in PoE's case, the imaginary giant playerbase outside of the Steam Client. I dont even know why you think somehow the Steam playerbase is wildly different than the "outside" playerbase anyways. That somehow the outside playerbase is a different breed, and likes every league and every mechanic, and is also larger than the Steam base. The people you are referring to, would be the niche playerbase, and niche usually means smaller base. Last edited by Destructodave on Sep 18, 2019, 12:42:51 AM

I would be inclined to believe that Steam charts are overwhelmingly indicative for general population in the game. Sure, it accounts for likely a large fraction and not all, but it's a decent way to compare online activity.

Girng, are you seriously trying to deny Steam's affect on PoE's popularity and growth? You know, I was here when it happened. Being released on Steam was a big deal.
Why do you think they did it? Just because? And I'd like to know where you think so many people hear about PoE and yet dont hear about/use it through Steam. I imagine the numbers of new players not using Steam is very small, while there are some old guard like me who had accounts before the Steam release who didnt merge. But we are the minority of players. Thats not even including the ones who did merge back then. |

" Kripparrian played a huge role in the game's success. Far more than what steam did, that's for sure. I loved the league. .
But honestly lost interest with the frequent crashes and disconects coupled with the cluster fudge that destroys my FPS. . I am your Devine one Bow before me

" How do you know this? | |
" my point is, it isn't about numbers. it isn't about population. that doesn't indicate anything except how many people are playing. which again, doesn't really say much. its like you think the only variable is the league mechanic and so if numbers are lower than other league mechanics that must mean its trash! so shortsighted i can't shake my head enough without passing out Last edited by xMustard on Sep 18, 2019, 1:04:32 AM
