Chaos to alt ratio ripoff

Just posting this as a PSA. I've had to call out about 30 people in the past week or so trying to trade their chaos for alterations and I just want to point out what actually happens when they do this. I know it will probably end up making some more people want to attempt to do this themselves, but it will also protect just as many buyers from being ripped off and hopefully help to stop this.

Normally, any price in a barter system is acceptable. However, when you are actually charging MORE than a vendor, then there's a problem.
What these people do is trade 1 chaos orb for 20 alterations. You can use a vendor to buy 8 jeweller's orbs for 16 alterations, and buy 2 fusings for those 8 jeweller's. They then trade the 2 fusings for 1 chaos orb to another player. They have now made 4 alterations for free out of thin air, for EACH chaos orb they do this with. Eventually this compounds upon itself; for every 4 chaos orbs they trade off in this way, they have made 16 alterations, which ends up being an extra chaos orb. For people who already have a stack or two of chaos orbs, if they can successfully rip enough people off like this, they will stand to profit a large amount.

I'm not trying to publicize this method, but if someone doesn't come out and actually tell people they're being ripped off, people will continue to buy at these prices when they could save themselves some currency. I try to call people on this ripoff when they do it in trade, and usually get multiple people asking how it's a ripoff and then thanking me after I explain, therefore I know this is helpful information.

There is a guy in my town who builds Tables and charges more than i would have to pay when i go and buy some wood a saw and nails etc.

What a ripoff that guy is seriously.

@OT: Ever thought about that people might be OK with paying 4 alts more if they don't have to go and do the vendor trade and then go and find someone to trade a chaos with?

That's how the market is. Grow up man.

You're clearly one of the ones doing it. This man in your analogy is actually doing a good deal of work making this table for you. The people who sell their 20 alts for 1 chaos are not being done a service that they are paying extra for; they are simply giving more to a player than they would be giving to a vendor for the same end result. There is no work involved.

Haha yeah I am totally one of them with my 60 alts and 10 chaos xD

No work involved? I think all those people who don't want to sit in trade chat 10+ minutes are willing to pay 4 alts more than the 1 chaos might be worth.

Situation 1:
Trade 20 alterations to a player for 1 chaos

Situation 2:
Turn 16 alterations in at a vendor for 2 fusings
Trade 2 fusings to a player for 1 chaos

Either way, you are still having to find a player to trade with. Chaos to fusing is probably the most common trade happening in the entire game, fusings are bought en masse in attempts to 5L/6L items. Fusing orb is definitely the most sought after orb for bulk usage, so finding someone to pay chaos for them is not going to be difficult at all.

Since you are not going to trade chat with the intention to offer 20 alts for 1 chaos It's more likely that they sit in chat and offer 1 chaos for 20 alts. Hence you don't really have to look for them. You see the offer and take them up on it.

How fast you can sell your 2 Fusings is debateable. All I am saying is: Someone takes the time to sell the stuff to the vendor and then goes and trades it to some guy for 1 chaos.

If he wants 4 alts more than the Chaos might be worth then let him do it. I see no ripping off here.

Judging by both the fact that a vast amount of people have thanked me for this information, and a moderator who told the other guy to stop spamming his trade offer over and over to spam me off the page also told me it was a "ripoff" not a "scam" (meaning he agrees), I'm going to say it probably is a ripoff.

Its only a rip off if the person doesn't know they're being charged a convenience fee.

Oh damn, a moderator said it is a ripoff?

Oh man i am so sorry you have to be right. My bad. I didn't know a moderator said that. That is almost like Chris himself said it right? It's not like moderators a players themselves with mod rights. They have to know the difference right? They learned it in their mod school.

lol not much to debate here. fusings are really worth more than chaos if ppl did the math since at end game they are the most used item period meaning ppl are trading for them in the thousands, yes thousands just to get their one single 6L item. all you have to do is say in trade chat "selling fusings" and you will get 15+ tells within moments.. don't believe me? try it yourself...
