There is league start race, this month Flashback, if you're not satisfied with that, just gather some bois 'round about your racing skill and throw up imaginary race in main league or proper private one.

Three huge differences:

1. The separation between an average player and a top-tier racer is far smaller than between me and, say, Usain Bolt or Cristiano Ronaldo.
2. PoE relies far more on technical specs and issues than even other esports, let alone real sports. My soccer ball is the same as Ronaldo's. My track is the same dimensions as an Olympic track. My PoE is not the same as other people's PoE. Even if I was faster than Usain Bolt, it wouldn't matter because I'd be running a 200m race vs. his 100m race. So why bother?
3. There are a near infinite number of ways to enjoy soccer or other athletic events in a sponsored competitive environment that aren't, you know, the WORLD CUP. There's no equivalent to a local 5k in PoE. Or even a mid-tier marathon. And private leagues are not an incentive to race. I'd say the opposite.

GGG wants to promote the game through racing. But there's zero racing support. They can't have it both ways. A new player drawn into the game by this race or Method's push into PoE will be introduced to a cloistered, insular system that only rewards the people who already race. Which is antagonizing.

*EDIT* I just realized how dumb it is to compare this race to the Olympics and the World Cup. Even those events invite shitty teams and athletes *because it has qualifiers.*

Man the salt here. The streamers are not rolling around in $. This is a chance for them to get in free on an event they can’t afford except via their skill at a game which some of them basically promote for free via their stream. Half of them look like they are in a room trying to split rent between like 2 or 3 other roommates; spooning in one bed for heat in the fridgid months.

Wish I could participate. Looks fun!
