PS Get Beta today anyway. :)

thanks for such an in depth explanation...much respect!

and have ordered just now....

for me to have a real understanding the only way is to play it....

is hard to know if that cap will be exactly to my liking only one way to find out ;)

regardless these indie devs deserve support for a cracking job so far

Imo, a truly good game should never (or at least hardly) require you to read some FaQ before playing it.
After all, gaming, for most people, is just about having fun. I don't know about you, but reading FaQs isn't very fun to me. It's much better if you try to explain things more in your game rather than referring to out of the game FaQs and what not. PoE for example doesn't explain things well enough (yet), but I'm sure they'll get that fixed up before the release.

Don't get me wrong, I don't ask to be held by the hand.
But the way PoE's questing is set up, you kind of expect something to pop up telling you what to do next. When it does that with some quests, and not with some others, it can become a little confusing.
I myself asked for directions a couple of times in situations where no quest up after I had just finished one.

To be fair, many quests aren't implemented yet, and the tutorial / information pop-ups haven't been added yet. So a lot of the tools for player communication haven't been implemented. Most of the questions asked in chat will be answered once these things are completed.

More seamless transition between quests, and better information delivery to the player will go a long way. I'm betting that once those are completed there will be no NEED to read the forums. For now, it is a good idea.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll streamline it.
I was just talking about how it is right now.

I heard they were working on making the beach section into a tutorial of sorts somewhere. Having said that testing it without the tutorial first gives them a good idea of which questions are most frequently asked so they can explain that stuff in in-game help.

This is what Christ said in the beta manifesto

It's quite likely that we'll pop up boxes near appropriate user interface elements for new players to explain what they need to do, contextually. "You've taken damage. Click one of these flasks to heal yourself" or "You have not allocated your passive skill point. Click this button to do so", for example.

It would make sense for that sort of thing to happen on the first beach you find yourself on. So I'd say you are likely right.

Jesus said that?...Wow. Set in stone, brothers and sisters. Set. In. Stone.
Account sharing/boosting is a bannable offence. No ifs, ands, or buts. No exceptions. Not even for billionaires.

Can I just say, I'm bittersweet about the following fact:

This topic has garnered more views than the stickied 'mechanics' post in the beta discussion board.

That makes me very sad.

Show it some love, people. It's worth reading, a thousand times over anything here.

Some games are just worth playing for a while before one seeks to break it down into the science it is and will be :P
