Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012
I don't get it.
What was the need for this post? I respect your opinion and it was a well written post (2) but what was it going to accomplish? Do you not want me to play D3? I started out with D1 too. I'm going to buy and enjoy D3. I also like this game too (aside from it being a bit boring). It seems others too have felt the need to post other topics trying to sway their fellow gamer's thoughts on D3. I'm in the D3 beta and it's great. Does that make me a bad person? Okay, that last sentence was silly. I think you get my point though. Lastly, first person to PM gets a PoE code. Been sitting in my inbox for half a year. |

Well we had a fun little discussion about the subject, and that's pretty much what OP was looking for afaik.

I really miss the point of comparaison over Diablo 3, especially when we saw so little of the game itself.
I'm not saying any game is better than another, just that some features can appeal different players on both sides. I didn't tried the CB of PoE myself but so far I am intrigued about the old school gameplay as being a huge fan of Diablo series and Hack'n Slash in general, the passive skill tree sure looks epic and I like the dark atmosphere (from what I saw so far). On the other hand I am a big fan of Diablo lore, I think the hand painted like graphics of Diablo 3 looks just great, I do love the fast action gameplay, the crafts and many other things on D3. Does that mean I can't play PoE and D3 ? Why should we have to choose one game in the first place ? Just my two cents, I really hope that PoE will get the success it deserve :) Last edited by lordofthedread#1247 on Mar 28, 2012, 12:26:40 PM

" WHAT? You like diablo 3? How dare you post and write its name in this holy forum. It seems like we have a heretic here boys. You can't play both games because..ummm.. because its not logical, because you must be crazy if you think you can play one after another, and to think like that, your mind must be touched by chaos and madness. We will burn the heretics, the mutant, the justin bieber, and all other abominations. (I am joking, and was bored of this type of threads) |

" That just made me laugh XD Just agree to disagree I guess ;) Julius's path of exile wine bundle for mac here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/48708/page/1

I played the Diablo 3 beta for a short while and I just really don't like what they did with the skills. Unlocking new skills (and their variants) as you level is just so mind-numbing that I found myself leveling up, going "did I get something cool yet?" and grinding away for the next level. No fun.
PoE's looking to be a lot closer to Diablo 2, and to be honest that's all I really wanted from Diablo 3. |

" That points out a very good distinction between the two that hasn't directly been touched on. When I played PoE, or D2, I had a plan for my characters from the start. Its part of what made/makes leveling fun. In 3 more levels, I will reach this node on the skill forest, and be able to use blood magic, or have 1 more minion. Your character began with a goal and planning, which is part of what makes the journey fun. With Diablo 3, you lose that to a conveyer belt. No planning of what your character is going to do or be doing, or how you could maybe get there faster. No prioritizing skill points, or what you should get first. Again, I'll be getting both games, but I think PoE has much more replay potential right now. In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

" Although this was fun for me in d2, it's not so much in POE. Simply because you don't actually get anything big besides a few major nodes. Sure, a little bit of extra damage is nice, but it's not something that makes me go 'OH BOY, I can't wait to level up!' " Depends for what you're going. This is after all a passive tree. Only if PoE had the same thing with active skills, this game would be a blast for me. Just think combination of PoE passive skill tree, and somthing like titan quest masteries. But anyway, at least, its more fun then d3 to lvl. |

Titan Quest had a better tree, that's why it's #2 in my top HnS list.
PoE is #3 only because Torchlight didn't have multiplayer. PoE forums ignore list script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/162657 0.4: added "ignore" button. ignore list is now saved locally. Last edited by kodr#0209 on Mar 28, 2012, 3:04:11 PM
