almost cried at the ending of CoD4

when briggs got shot.

Then i played MW2 storyline and wanted to throttle Activision for hollywood-izing a great plot.

But anyways, i hope D3 will at least be decent.

Well at least you can be 99.99999999999% sure that blizzard won't be 'hollywood-izing' the story. :P

...Really, Tagek? Considering the original plan for Diablo 3 by Blizzard North was strongly rumoured to be the resolution of the Sin War set on the planes above and below Sanctuary, I'd say what D3 is presenting so far is actually *very* Hollywood. This is what I've seen so far:

1 -- the return of familiar faces/actors looking and sounding just a bit over it all; Cain in particular was already on the way towards redundancy in D2, now he's just a sad old man needing rescuing with a hot niece (see point 2)

2 -- a circle of cool, hot, young protagonists replacing the original 'grizzled' veterans, clearly cast to aim at a younger, more 'hip' demographic riddled with ADHD to whom '30' is virtually ancient. This point also includes Leah's role

3 -- the rather dated premise of a heavenly body crashing to earth (didn't Blizzard already do that with Reign of Chaos?), which was old even back when Bruce Willis stopped it from happening in 1999

4 -- The dispensing of a minimalist, moody, almost ethnic score for choir and orchestra, which is admittedly epic but shit, you can find that in any old cgi popcorn-filler these days. Did I like the music to the new Transformers? It was okay, but far from memorable: strings played ostinato is a cut-and-paste feature found in Halo, Gears of War and God of War just to mention a few. ps ostinato is that repetitive undertone that carries throughout the piece, if you weren't sure. You'd know it if you heard it

That's all I can think of at this point. I'm sure we'll know more once the full thing is out, but I'll eat a horse and chase the rider if the story of D3 satisfies fans of the series much more than SC2 has so far.

1 - Well cain is (early on anyway) the key to the story, he helps you unravel what is happening, and given the (amazingly epic) black soulstone cinematic, I'll bet his niece plays a big part in the story too. They wanted a relative to cain, would you rather have had a young boy? I sure as hell wouldn't. EDIT: It wouldn't have been the same without cain, even just for nostalgic reasons alone.

2 - I think you really might just have a case of 'nostalgia syndrome' here. You're acting like D2 was any different. For example: The sorceress, a scantily clad young lady, the assasin, someone straight out of a bondage porn movie, and the amazon, basically the same as the sorceress. Not to mension that the barbarian in D3 is actually far older than the one from D2. The same goes for the monk versus the paladin from what I've seen.

3 - Well they have to come up with something don't they?
And to be fair, no one knows what the meteorite is all about or what it holds. I think it's actually very intrigueing. EDIT: The story isn't really about the meteor anyway, it's just the start of it.

4 - Well the diablo 2 trailers all had orchestric music didn't they? All blizzard's games / trailers do.
Perhaps there's less of an emphasis on music in game, but
we really don't know all that much about it yet.
For all we know they purposefully excluded most of the music from the beta.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: You do have some valid points though. But
even if they decided to add some hot side character, I don't mind. It's the actual plot involving diablo (and hopefully but probably not mephisto, because I fucking love mephisto) that matters, and I know they won't hollywood-ize it.

Also even MORE EDIT EDIT: It is highly likely that angels will also be in the game, so the whole sinwar resolution thing might not be too far off.

and to be fair between the D2 that told us the last part of a story and the D3 is telling us the continue of this story . between those games a big connection was needed and many years have pasted, either in our world or in the Sanctuary world.

Yeah, it's been 20 years since D2 so re-using the previous game's characters wasn't even really an option in the first place.

Wow a topic that started with great content (gameplay), now presenting tons of posts about superficial stuff (story who really cares?? I rather have no story and tons of customization if I had the choice), damn this is so disappointing...

That's your opinion. If you want a shallow, unimmersive world then that's fine, but most of us don't.
Please just don't bother posting if you have nothing to add but complaints about the topic we're discussing.
