Hardcore and why you should play / try it

HC is awesome. Getting to high lvls to do maps and stuff actually means something. I lost my LS ranger fighting piety the first time in act3, it was my stupid mistake to not equip my lightning resist items beforehand.

Though I find some peoples attitude towards helping others in HC chat quite unpleasant. Pretending to be elite is a most distasteful quality no matter where found.

You're missing the point dude. You aren't 'losing' anything by dying - the journey you will have been on before you died is 10 times more memorable and exciting than playing in softcore.

There's nothing "Hardcore" about erasing invested time. Hardcore League = Reroll League. No thanks.

what do you call spamming maps for days only to upgrade a single item?

renting this space - 1 gcp/month
I usualy start a new Character on HC and then i die and just play SC :P
Gl & HF may the rng gods be with you.

There is no "point" to miss. His fun is not your fun. The game is repetitive enough, dying and redoing the same grinds over and over again is boring to me. I rather just stick to map grinding with my characters because of the variety at least rather than doing Normal, Cruel and Merc Ledge,Fellshrine and Docks ad nauseam.

It is boring as fuck.

Realm of the Mad God(a flash game) is far challenging than this 'cause the only challenge that I ever get from POE is desyncing rhoas, ribbons, leaping goats, and rolling earth elementals. I am sure someone will come up and say "But brrrrooo, desync is part of teh experience! LOLTROLOL!"

I still got one HC (melee) char left... who has been lucky enough to avoid desync. Act 2 cruel at the moment with her. But all my other HC (ranged) chars died on normal due to desync. So I stopped playing HC until it gets sorted out.

I`m playing in SC just to state it before i write anything.

I can`t understand why people are making topics like this. It feels like the Jehova guys whos are knocking on your door. If i want to play in HC, i just go and play there. But tell me Whats the point in threads like this?

I think it should be my own choice to do so and not because every HC player says your not as good as we are, because you play on SC. If i like to play on SC so what? If you play on SC it doesn`t mean you don`t mind to die. I have an 85 maruder. First time i died i was lvl 78!!! It only depends on your play style. You can be a glass cannon or you can try to build up some defence to avoid death.

To the part you can make friends easier. You can also make friends on SC. It`s not a HC privilage to have friends. A lot of my real life friends started to play when OB came out, but i also made friends along the way and we do the looking for gear for each other as well. It`s only up to what kind of player you are.

Don`t start a flame war over my post, pls!!!! Thanks :D

I tried it and realised it wasn't for me. I've played only 1 hardcore character during my 6 months or so of playing the game, this was back in CB just after the map system was released. I got to around level 64 (yeah i know, not that great) before I quit. Now, before all of you Hardcore players jump on me saying I died and ragequit, I never actually died. I simply quit, because i got bored of it.

Whenever I play hardcore I automatically convert to a completely different playstyle, a playstyle based around being FAR too careful. It is slow, it is inefficient, I never take risks and I always outlevel EVERYTHING. Now I could always try to change my way of approaching it, but changing a core aspect of yourself is not an easy thing to do. This results in me finding hardcore in games like this incredibly tedious and as such I choose to play default instead.

I appreciate the fact that many of you guys enjoy hardcore, because of the 'thrills' you get from always being afraid of death. I just personally slow down to a crawl as an effect of this, so I just can't enjoy it.

Again I don't force people I just want to explain it. Yes we have people that think they are better because of Hardcore but there are also people in Softcore that do the same. To say they are all elitist is just a bad mistake. Idiots are all over the place and because of the internet they are the most vocal group and are most active in spreading out bullshit in forums. But the majority are friendly people and many of them just dont participate in forums because its a waste of time. Try to discuss with people that just want to flame / troll is annoying and as you are not forced you just play the game, stick with people you meet ingame and use the forum as your entertaining daily tonight show.

I kind of understand why people get offended if they get called Softcore gamer. But I use it not to offend people I use it at what it is. A description of a playstyle and normal just don't fits it. It actually never did. Easy, Normal, Hard, Brutal, Hardcore are just definitions of difficulty in a Game. And for me, and I just talk for me! Playing lets say Dragon Age in Normal does not matter at all, you did not beat the game in my eyes at all. We can argue if the game is difficult at any point and I will say no, Bioware just sucks with designing this. But my point of view is: If you don't beat a game in the hardest difficulty the game designer provides, you didn't play the game. And again this is just my opinion. But I am kind of oldschool, I play a game because of the challenge and not just to soft entertain my self. If I want this I just turn the TV on. Or arm wrestler against a 10 year old child. I play a game because I want to beat it. Common developer, challenge me. This is fun for me! And Again this is my opinion on Games. So if you feel offended with the term Softcore gamer I cauld use casual gamer. But casual gamer is in my eyes a real insult. If i take something serious people that do not are a pain in the ass. Playing soccer in a team and you loose because some casuals are not playing their best sucks hard. You don't do this so I don't want to insult you. If you feel insulted its just because we understand the phrase different. Speaking for me again - Softocre is not an Insult, its an description for me.

And here comes the "wasting time" point. We are all wasting time with playing a game. We could do much more productive things that are more meaningful for our life and for sure, more meaningful to other lives. Playing 3 Hours a game or spend this 3 hours to set up a great dinner for friends / family / girlfriend sounds for example much better. Or study Biology and destroy Aids...This is again my point of view. But we are playing games to waste time. Do something just we enjoy, things that we do for us selfish bastards right.

Chars that die in Hardcore loose their Gear. Its the most powerfull Gear they found / crafted or bought. So the Items are gone. So ofc the economy looses Items. Great Items in fact. Yes our stashes are full with currency and Gear but this is backup Gear we found, of Gear we stopped using. Gear we use to level up a new toon / sell to others or give friends. And you don't always have the "best in slot" for each level. It happens more than one time that I am stuck and not able to progress safe. So I have to grind till I get (a great drop what not happens that often because I care much more about my overall stats then just pure DPS) all the currency I need to buy /craft an Item. And we all know crafting an Item with the suffix, prefix you want can be expansive and most of the time is expansive. But still great items are gone and currency we used are gone too. People are crafting Items to progress. If I die a level 18 armor aura is gone. Its out of the pool and I have to level a new one or buy a new one. Its not like you just get more and more and more chromatic all the time. U use it to progress, u use it much more then in Softcore. We are not allowed to play a style Softcore gamers are allowed: Ok all fine -> Ok a bit more challenging -> wow this is pretty ruff -> Damn I died well lets tweak the gear. We also don't just switch gear randomly, I for example cant just pick up an Item that has much more hp if I would loose 10% resist. This does not work out for me. I try not to loose on one point to get another point higher. I am watching the balance, and yes I am really careful, maybe to careful but this is how I play a game safe. With this point of view, yes our economy is always much fresher. Because we constantly have to use currency on the way to max level. And yes some fucking luckers of another dimension are always out but for me, nope I am not. I have my "daily troll orange Item" and I get pissed cause why orange and not a usefull yellow that cauld really help me out *grrrr*.

So with my point of view we can start to argue. Its again just my point of view. And I am looking forward. Always enjoy getting new facts/ideas/mindsets.

PS: @Caimath: Real Hardcore Gamers will not Insult you at all. Its Ok and as I said, Hardcore is not for everyone. And again this game is not about forcing people to play Hardcore at all. Its more about discribing it that people get an Idea of it and what is entertaining about and not just "I will never play it cause if I die blablabla".
