The players posting that PoE looks and plays like crap always make me sad, as the game is definately not.

You have most likely ssd or a lot of ram.

This game works really bad if played with hdd or on low upload bandwidth.

Nevertheless 4k is good in every game. 1080 gpu for 4k is not enough. Titanium version is much better, but still lack power for 4k.

my 1080ti does 4k just fine in every game ive tried it in so far
I dont see any any key!
I run it both on a 27" 2560x1440 screen at 165Hz (Asus PG279Q), and a 43" 3840x2160 screen at 60Hz (Acer ET430K). Both look great, but yeah the 4K display is overall nicer-looking. If I had to choose one I'd pick the 165Hz display though. High refresh rate is just that good. Everything becomes that much more responsive, and it is not only for games which I hear a lot of people claim. Just regular Windows use at 165Hz is way, WAY nicer than 60Hz. It's much snappier, and simple things like moving the pointer around, moving windows, scrolling.. It's a world of difference. Once used to it, there really is no going back I feel.

That said, screen quality matters a lot too. While my Asus is very nice overall, when compared to the bigger Acer, it looks quite washed out. The colours are noticeably richer on the cheap Acer, and the blacks are darker too. It's a really nice display to be honest. Cheap and plastic, yeah, but it's great. :) I use it for video stuff mostly. Both are IPS, both are calibrated so that's not the issue here.

Running PoE in 4K isn't particularly taxing, it seems. I'm using an 8700K that currently runs at stock speed, with a 1080Ti GPU, also at stock. Used to run it at 4.9GHz but I've dialled it back because it's summer and hot, and I hate fan noise! I haven't noticed any decrease in PoE performance though. In PoE all settings are at max, with dynamic resolution disabled, DX11 and multi-threading enabled.

With the Asus I run with G-Sync enabled and cap the max fps to 120, mostly due to micro stuttering which seems to come from PoE's engine. It just doesn't like high refresh, I've realized. Oh, and I need to run on Predictive mode, Lockstep is unplayable at high refresh even with a good connection (my average ping is 32ms). Fortunately Predictive is a lot better these days, I barely ever get desync issues unless the server is really busy. With Lockstep though, it stutters and hitches all the time.

On the big screen I can use whatever mode, and usually run with V-sync enabled in the game (the monitor itself lacks any form of adaptive sync). It rarely dips below 60fps, but it does happen occasionally. No biggie though, it's mostly fine. Predictive feels better here too, but it's not as bad as on the high refresh one.

What do you mean? I run steady 60fps with a i7 8700k 1080ti Game runs better than Diablo 3, but I still keep hearing people complain about optimization. Something I am missing here?

Runs better than D3? Unlikely. D3 graphics are circa 2008, low textures, animations, visual and particle effects.

It's not unlikely it's true that it runs better than Diablo 3 does. I get micro stutters at times in D3 and even with huge groups I haven't seen any dips in PoE yet even in some really spammy and intense situations.

Its always more complicated, for example D3 has an old (but good) engine, apart of the physics part, which is (or still was a while ago) cpu based, thus while the game itself, say incinerate build, would still be playable on ~800mhz with a crappy gpu, once pieces start flying around, it will attempt to fry your cpu even with a good gpu :)

As for poe, stuff constantly changes, we seemingly got a new shader engine a while ago (works better, imo), i imagine the devs keep up to speed with highend stuff. The rub comes when the setup is not completely highend and you start hitting issues like the engine itself not having maximums in certain areas, particles seem like that for example...
Add in that dynamic resolution does not work for some people (they get lowest resolution permanently, regardless of max fps slider setting and current fps) and that the feature was launched initially with 60fps setting default (which you just wont permanently get with vsync on with 60hz monitor) and people disabled it...
Hi all,

I see a lot of people mentioning 1080 Ti graphics card to play POE in 4k at max settings and maintaining 60 FPS. Is that true? I'm in the market for a video card, I currently have an RX 460 (because I primarily game on XBOX), but I don't really want to spend upwards of $600 to play POE on my PC.

Will a GTX 1060 or RX 580 handle 4k @ 60 fps w/ max settings?

I also play on XBOX One X in 4k on my LG OLED TV, but to be honest, I prefer the gameplay on my PC. It's just doesn't feel the same on XBOX.

Good god no. Your fps will be in the low 20s during the majority of heavy load encounters.

Ya this. It struggles in regular resolutions like Jesus 4K would kill frame rates

Ryzen 7 or whatever system with 1070i 8gb Nvdiia card pulls 4K on 28" monitor at about 50-60 FPS, depending on how heavily the screen is flashing.
Recommend 4K to everyone that is thinking about it and loves PoE. Worth it.

Thought I would share an update. I decided to take a chance on the Radeon RX 580. It arrived today and I have been playing POE at 4k with all the settings maxed (with the exception of AA since at 4k I don't think it's needed). The game runs fine.. With VSYNC off, the FPS is between 100-170. When VSYNC on, it's steady at 60FPS.

For the record I'm playing a necromancer build with 9 zombies, 12 skeletons (including mages), and a Vaal Skeletons gem for even more minions. No problems!

GTX 1080 Ti is way overkill for this game.

I play on a 21:9 3440x1440, all max settings. I get well over 100fps during fights, and just running around goes between 200 to 300. i7 8700k and a gtx1080 ti.
