players playing in 4K?
" What do you mean? I run steady 60fps with a i7 8700k 1080ti Game runs better than Diablo 3, but I still keep hearing people complain about optimization. Something I am missing here? |

" It's gotta be possible, I play on a "3k" kinda 21:9 screen, but get well over 200 fps on ultra most of the time, and usually above 100 fps during huge aoe fights. |

" At what screen resolution and with what build/game content? IGN: Arlianth

" Really makes me wonder too, I think people are playing new games on old hardware and complaining their hardware is old |

Game runs very nice in 4K. I can record game footage at 4K 60fps on my laptop (MSI GS63VR 6RF), with steady 60fps even when using the old lightning strike which had heavy graphics load.

" Interesting, I play CS Go from time to time which is also on a 14 year old engine with a relatively new GPU |

I have both a 1440p monitor at 165hz and a 4k one at 60hz.
For static shots the 4k looks better, but when actually running around in a 6 player party with crazy speed the 165hz one is better. It looks much smoother. Things that kill fps are like massive molten strike spam which does drop fps below 100. |

" Runs better than D3? Unlikely. D3 graphics are circa 2008, low textures, animations, visual and particle effects. "I've played a lot of videogames. It's my primary recreational activity. Best games ever: Elden Ring and Diablo 4."

I went from a 144hz 27" 1920 x 1080 screen to a 32" 3840 x 2160 and it does look so much nicer. Sure, you lose that really silky smoothness of a 144hz screen when you manage to stay at high FPS (which was the vast majority of the time). However a 60hz G-SYNC 4k monitor still feels really nice and you get used to it after a while so I don't feel like I miss the HFR monitor so much when it comes to top down RPG's. I wouldn't trade it for 4K at this point. As posted earlier though a 2560 x 1440 HFR monitor probably gets you the best IQ vs smoothness and is probably what I would go for if you don't "need" a 4K monitor.
I played D3 in 4K too and with the DX11 engine I actually think it looks pretty nice. However POE has probably caught up now and arguably overtaken in the looks stakes. Plus I don't really seem to notice any difference between fully maxing out POE with 8xMSAA, 16XAF and no DSR...etc and not having those on. When the game feels bad it just tends to feel not so smooth which is normally down to the connection to the server rather than a lack of graphical / logistical processing on my machine. I rarely play anything other than on my own though and the few times I have been part of a 4 - 6 man group everything certainly tends to feel much worse. Hats off to GGG though. When I first came into the game I vastly preferred how D3 ran and looked. Now although D3 may still feel a touch smoother at times POE feels pretty damn good 99.9% of the time and it looks really fantastic. |
