PoE races are not ethical

I hate post like this... People need to mind their own business, you shouldn't think you know whats best for someone else other than yourself. Someone wants to play 16-20 hours a day? that's not your problem. Sleep deprivation or not, stay the fuck outta people's business.. holy shit how do people get butthurt over what someone else is doing across the world from them??

Designing the events/game in a way that caters to those people who play like that definitely does make the game less fun for people who play a reasonably healthy amount, so it is definitely valid feedback and discussion. I don't really care about ethics so much for it since it's just a video game.
Not this again.

I love (irony!) when the word "ethical" gets thrown around in video games. It is simply scrumptious.

P.S. OP take your crusade to something worthy of criticism like, I dunno, overworked and underpayed sweat shops here and abroad?

Because people play insane amount of hours to reach their top100.

Example ranked #2 player played 100 hours but #1 player 130 hours. Ethically #2 player should be ahead.

Ethically player #2 should be ahead? Explain to me how this is? Player #2 has played 30 LESS hours than player one.. Of course he is going to be behind to the tune of about 30 hours of exp, drops, and everything you gain from simply playing. This is the way it is in EVERYTHING.. The more time you put in the more results you will see..

If you play 6 hours per day and i play 12 hours each day at the start of a new league.. You can never expect to have the same exp gains, just as good of currency drops, and over all gear drops i have seen considering ive played twice as much time.. This is simple logic. More time you put in the more shit you will inevitably see..

This is not even factoring in effective use of game time either. Even if im not using my game time quite as well as you are in my 12 hours vs your 6 hours im still going to have an advantage over you because again im playing twice as much. The only way your effective use of game time thats better than mine will even begin to have an impact what so ever is.. You guessed it.. Play More!!!

Theres a reason GGG give us such a huge timeline till the next league... Because in the past when GGG didn't give quite as much time for things like races and new league events people got pissed because it made it harder for them to ask for their PTO (Paid time off) at work or just to get the time off at the start of a league where playing as much as you possibly can pays off in huge ways and benefits you throughout the league. Which BTW MANY people do just that.. they take time off from their jobs just to be competitive or just to have that huge advantage in trading you get from getting to maps asap.
There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear.

OP -

Let me clear something up about ethics: one must consider the intentions of the person/entity whose behavior you are analyzing.

If the intent of GGG in creating a short race is to deprive people of health, life, etc then it is unethical.
If it is not intended, but it happens anyway, then it is an unfortunate unintended consequence.

Example:
Is driving a car unethical?
- If your intent is to drive it into a crowd of people to cause death and grievous bodily harm, then the answer is; yes, it is unethical.
- If your intent is to drive a dying person to a hospital in an emergency, and in a moment of panic you lose control of the vehicle and it drives into a crowd of people, then the answer is; no, the act of driving was not unethical.

In both cases driving caused harm to others, the difference is INTENT.

So, let me ask you:
Do you think GGG's intent is to kill people by sleep deprivation, or to cause a deterioration of health as a result of over consumption of caffeinated beverages?

People need to realize that there's a reason that they have courses, and yes even entire degrees conferred, in Ethics.

Listening to a bunch of amateurs discuss this like they know what they're talking about is like going to a Flat Earth convention to learn about physics. You all have no idea how silly you sound.

Stick to math...

But it's not just unethical from competive perspective but for PoE as developers too. You actually encourage some people go with their addictive sleep deprivation and people have actually died from it. They sit all day drinking their coffeine just to stay awake and then pay price for it with their health.

If you want to make it truly competive then you need put timers how much people are logged inside game and put that into equation.

I dont see any any key!

“Skilled” is very subjective, especially in a game where RNG is a factor.

RNG isnt a factor in races, it hasnt been in a long time. There's a reason why same 2 players have won practically every race.

As a guy who is currently working full time and still trying to win demi in hc ssf I can confirm it s pretty much impossible to win if you are working. Which is ok, people who invest more time into the game deserve the priZe more. However I would love a race where the rewards are given for time played, it would actually be fair for those are pretty fast players but don't have 10 free days to spare for a race

I guess it's hard to make a fair formula to count level/time spent, because someone with 90lvl after 30 hours should be still higher than someone with 88 after 25h. But should someone with 90lvl after 30 hours be higher than 88 level after 10? Well, that's hard.

That. And in addition to that, it should also be taken into the account that leveling is slower at the start of a new race and faster at the end of it - so if someone hit level 100 in 101 hours when race was fresh vs someone who hit lvl 100 in 100 hours at the end of the race, I think the first player should win.
