American evening Race Event times updated

In this thread: Everyone thinks they know the game mechanics better than the guy who made the game. You're all pretty smart guys, keep proving why GGG should almost NEVER listen to the players, especially now that the game is popular and attracting... this epic truckload of failures in every "blue post"

We'd need to have dozens of events in the evenings to get perfect coverage here.

Sounds like a plan! The more races the merrier.

Welcome to real life this is how it works. But I don't agree many new players actually make alot of currency in races selling maps and chisels. And no GGG shouldn't cater to the casual s. POE is a game designed for experience gamers and with races is a competition not a kindergarden. There is plenty of games out there that caters to the casual if you like that sort of stuff you should go there instead of making whiny forum post

Maybe you should put forward rational arguments instead of passing off relevant posts as whiny.

The truth is that this game cannot survive indefinitely only on contributions from hardcore players, since like it or not, they are by no means the majority. GGG needs a large player base to sustain itself and that player base cannot be only hardcore players, since there is simply not enough supply of them. Thus a system needs to be devised that also keeps the less hardcore people interested and spending money in the long run. These races as they stand are definitely a nice incentive for the top players (though specific prizes need to be adjusted) to keep playing and that is great. However they do not do the same for the casual players, who will get bored and leave. You may say "thats great, let them leave, we only want the hardcore fans" but with that attitude, the money will soon dry up.

Most of hardcore aRPG fans have already heard of PoE and thus (since its open beta) have tried it. Any advertising or more content will not bring more of these hardcore players, since all are already in. But since the cosmetic stuff is limited, there will soon be a lack of interesting stuff to spend money on for these hardcore fans. Thus the revenue from these players will decrease over time.

To keep the cash flowing, you need to get more players, as well as retain the ones you have now. That brings me back to the main point. Without an incentive system to retain casual players in the long run, revenues will decrease. You can't even use the race system for advertising, since it (in its current form) only speaks to the hardcore fans, who are already playing the game.

tl;dr: Revenue from hardcore players will dry up, you need casuals to survive. Hardcores need Casuals so that additional content is developed and servers stay up for long time to come.
free to play + catering primarily to "hardcore players" = fail.

it's not even a contested issue, they'll either change things to be a little more of an incentive for casuals now (if they have enough foresight so understand what's going on here) or they'll do it later after they realize they're losing revenue.

see you in 6 months / 1 year and I will be very very surprised if the reward system hasn't changed by then.

Unfortunately it's impossible to get good times for everybody...

In Brazil the times are:

12:00am: I'm going to sleep, cause I wake up at 7am (I can still do 1 hour race, but there is only 2+ hours race at this time)

8:00am: I arrive at work

2:00pm: I just came back from my 2 hours lunch time

6:00pm: I'm leaving work and it'll take 30min to arrive home (I'll be able to enjoy 2+ hours race with a little 30min disadvantage from everybody else)

So, I'm stuck at work while most races are happening. I'll have to be happy with Weekend Races. Thou I'm not complaining about it :)

I don't even want tons of currency to come flooding in through the races, but at least SOME.

Currently there is only one single reward for winning a single race, all others are just points that give you nothing once it's over. I'd be glad to see the top 5 players of every class get something like 1-2 random currencies, so that there is something to look forward to for competing only in single races, without caring about the whole season.
And maybe an orb bag as the first or second prize on the season rewards.

I rather like the usual slot machine mentality of this game a lot mor than fixed prizes.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with orb rewards if you tune them appropriately, ie mostly just lower rarity orbs, maybe up to alch, with the chance to get higher orbs much much lower.

Of course if you have 75% chance to win exalteds every race that's idiotic, but is that a problem with rewarding orbs or with GGG not tuning their rewards properly? Yeah, whatever. Let's all enjoy our LIMITED EDITION CRAP ITEMS.

You don't seem to understand what f2p is for PoE: it just is a way of marketing & has nothing to do with getting a big amount of casual players for revenues! With f2p many people are able to take a look and so in the end there will be a decent amount of true lovers of the concept to get GGG going for the years to come.
Hope not to see you back complaining in 6 months, as GGG will surely not do changes in that direction!
Keep calm, play PoE, drink Tea & listen to Prog!

Well, this is where we disagree. In my opinion, the hardcore aRPG gamer group is not large enough to sustain GGG revenue wise over longer periods of time. That may change if more money sinks are introduced (such as paid leagues and ladders) and if said hardcore aRPG gamer group is rich enough to afford them.

Since, as far as I know, no relevant data is available, we will have to wait and see whose guesstimate is better =)
I think the only thing that is making me consider racing is the lifetime rewards,

I have a feeling they will eventually have some good stuff about a year from now so better start stacking those RP!
