I dont think it works that fast, Meaning the transition of resistances. Ive read before its a matter of seconds not micro seconds. I want to be wrong so I can go ahead with my trickster frenzy ascendancy. Anyone else know for sure?

It doesn't matter.. Discharge already does cold damage from malice, its just extra damage while clearing.

Alright, I went on ahead and bought a 6 linked volls and cospri. Can't wait to destroy the game , got tired of totems
Hey guys, for the Assassin variant what is the best way to get the Elreon rings? Simply buy an Elreon ring and alt it for the proper -7 mana cost of skills, or do I need to legit find it that way from him and can't roll it? Thanks for the advice guys!
If you use an alteration on an Elreon ring, you lose the -X Mana affix...

Buy Diamond rings with -x mana and a good Suffix roll (like a good resist, or Accuracy). If the -Mana roll is low, then you can Divine it higher. Once you get that, craft "Can have multiple Crafted mods" with Elreon 8, and then add your other crafted affixes. Of course you can also just buy rings that have already been multimodded.
U MAD?

"Wtf is this? Sale thread? For everyone concerned: None of those items save Vinktar's is BiS. Pretty as mult is, spell damage / mult wins out in the case of this build.

LOL that vinktar price

That's a Legacy Vinktar. Still overpriced, yes, but Legacy looks to start at ~50 ex in Standard right now.
U MAD?
1) Are the jewels in need of immediate upgrade atm?

2) Do you level all the gems except cyclone in Voll's Protector to 20?

3) Do you need to priotize dex on gear at the cost of some es/damage instead of getting a +30 dex node or two?

4) I know boss killing isn't really the aim of the build but can it do uber lab?

Had around 15-18 ex laying around in Standard so managed to get these. Would these be enough for an entry level budget build? Do you recommend going Assassin or Trickster with current items?

Okay that vinktars flask is bad. Added lightning damage to attacks is the worst one as it will completely remove your elemental equilibrium. Also I hope you didn't spend too much on the shield, helmet and rings because they are pretty bad. You should be able to buy way better shield and helmet for basically peanuts.

Unless you have elreon rings (-mana cost of skills), trickster is the only real option.

Jewels are fine but if you play as assassin you'll need a +2 mana gained on hit jewel to sustain cyclone.

Uber lab, even full key runs, are easy peasy.

I played this build in Essence and loved it, and now I play it in standard since I grew bored of Breach league. I do have some questions about damage opminization - bear with me since I'm still learning all the mechanics!

1) There seems to be a pretty big push for crit multi on jewels, but as I understand it when you have 2 or more multipliers to damage, it is actually optimal to equalize the multipliers instead of favoring one. For instance, suppose that a skill deals 100 damage, and you have both damage multipliers and crit multipliers that would multiply that damage (and for simplicity's sake, let's suppose that chance to hit is 100%).

Damage if damage multiplier is 1.5 and crit multiplier is 1.5:

100x1.5x1.5=225

Damage if damage multiplier is 1.4 and crit multiplier is 1.6:

100x1.4x1.6=224

Damage if damage multiplier is 1.3 and crit multiplier is 1.7:

100x1.3x1.7=221

The further apart the multipliers, the lower the damage. Maximum damage will occur when the multipliers are equal, assuming that you have a pool of points to distribute between the multipliers (in other words, we're assuming that you have a choice of boosting one modifier or the other by an equal amount on all your gear and passives).

Let's look at a more realistic scenario. Suppose that crit multi is 450%, and that the damage multiplier (from spell damage, area damage etc) is 200%. Therefore 100 damage would be modified in this way:

100x4.5x2.0=900

Now lets suppose you wish to equip a jewel, and you're wondering which affixes to choose. Let's keep it simple for a moment: let's suppose that you only have one damage affix on the jewel, and you're debating between increased spell damage (+16%) or crit multi to lightning skill (+18%). With the spell damage boost, the total damage would be:

100x4.5x2.16=972

With the crit multi boost, the damage would be:

100x4.68x2.0=936

As expected, the crit multi boost is inferior to the damage boost, even though the damage boost is 2% lower.

In addition, the crit multiplier doesn't apply 100% of the time not only because the crit cap is 95% (assuming no Assassin's Mark cursing), but also because your accuracy is rolled against twice for crits.

It seems then that it is a mistake to push for a high crit multi at the expense of spell damage/area damage. Please let me know if my analysis is in error anywhere.

2) I always like to check out the various Cospri's Malice builds, and I very often see players going for attack speed on tree and jewels, and even running Vaal Haste. While this certainly improves Shield Charging speed and general map clearing speed, it seems to me that boosting attack speed too high can significantly harm single target damage.

The reason for this is the 250ms cooldown on Cospri's Malice. Because of this, a cyclone speed greater than 4 attacks per second will result in a nerf to damage, because it will reduce the number of Malice procs. For instance, if the speed is 4.1 attacks per second, then cyclone will hit the target every 244ms. This means that after the first discharge proc, the second proc will not occur until the third cyclone hit - the second hit will be completely wasted since the Malice cooldown hasn't ended yet.

It seems then that cyclone speed should be kept at 4 attacks per second or slightly below for optimal dps. Once again, please let me know if I'm wrong about this.

3) I'm wondering if the second Discharge in the chest is an actual improvement over the previous set-up with PCoC and BV. As far as I understand, when the two discharges will proc one after the other, they will always do so without any intervening hits by Cyclone. In other words, when the CoC cooldown and Malice cooldown expire, the next Cyclone crit will proc both Discharges. When that happens, the first Discharge will trigger Elemental Equilibrium, which means that the second Discharge will have a very hefty damage penalty applied to it, assuming that it even has any charges to discharge (since the helm enchant will only cause charges to not be consumed 30% of the time).

Can someone verify whether it works this way? If so, it seems that the second Discharge is pretty negligible for single target damage.

1) Yes. Pushing for multi is a mistake, especially if you're Assassin with all the inbuilt multi / multi per Power Charge.

For all your reasons stated - even at 100% crit, a spread is better. So assuming an effective 80% crit, it's skewed remarkably in flat damage stats actually. That's why the quad multi jewels are pretty but nowhere near as effective as some people make them out to be. (Someone even made a Reddit post on how they 'made' the perfect Discharge gem. Reddit busted them though, the gem was bought and flipped. :P)

2) Possibly, but if you run a CoC in chest, as pioneered by OP, you add a second timer to it. Coupled with the Discharge helm, you get at least a little spike in DPS as opposed to a constant 250ms Discharge. If you ran a single Discharge, however, a high attack speed could make up for those times you failed to crit. It's hard to say 4 is optimal.

3) Well this one's tricky and may need a mod / dev's clarification. That said, are there any alternatives? (I've stuck BV back in WITH the Discharge, it's possible and I think the highest damage combo. See my Shaper clear vid a few pages back.)
