Race Event Season One announced!

This system is absolutely unattractive to casual players. You can hardly argue with that. It may be a good system for the hardcore players depending on rewards.

Since most players are casual (in the sense that they cannot spend several hours a day playing), chances are that most money will be coming from these casuals.

Thus, PoE really needs a system that caters to casual players to sustain itself. It may not be these races, they can stay just fun for the top elite, but if so, then some other system must be designed to keep casual players playing (and spending).

Well, to be fair, GGG has stated publicly that they would prefer cater to the slightly more "hardcore" playerbase, and give them what they want. They made this game for that group, and don't want to cater to casuals. Granted, this may be less players....but they are already WELL over what they expected, and I don't think they are going to sell out like other companies to make the game too easy. Honestly, those top tier players bring a lot of casuals to the game. Being able to watch what could be possible with enough time/dedication.

You are right to a point though, the RP rewards for first's might be a bit leetist. The same few people will be getting those each race, and everyone else will be getting the tiered 3-8 points or so per race. Not so fun for the middle-of-the-pack players.

So maybe awards for reaching certain areas of the game....i.e. act 1 clear in 1 hour, normal clear in 3....or whatever is oppropriate.

But honestly....this is the game for more dedicated players, and GGG has stated if people can't handle it and leave, they are OK with that. They are way above their projections already.

I think that they have a great idea with the season system and the unique rewards system. The suggestion to make a separate pool of "race only" uniques for season rewards is a good one to me.

However, I also would really like to see random currency remain as part of the threshold rewards. At least as an either/or for the season rewards but preferably as part of each race.

There was a definite tangible sense of joy to the currency rewards per race. I loved knowing that even though I wasn't near the top, that I earned some currency for reaching a certain point. Knowing that if I got better, I could maybe get even more the next time. Logging in after a race to see what i got was great.

That was actually an argument in closed beta from some when people complained that only no lifers won the longer races. The whole "well you still get currency" thing. That's gone.

An either/or system could help keep inflation down since some would choose the item, others the bag of X# of random currencies. Although, given how many orbs you can burn through, I see the inflationary concerns to be a bit overstated. I think that stems from other places.

I like the reward of random currency after a race if you hit the requirements. While at the same time knowing that people falling asleep at their keyboard (Simon, you there?), still were the ones to get the best of the best.

Hopefully this will all evolve nicely for everyone as this great game moves forward.

What about this: Keep the current unique reward tiers, but make several smaller tiers that only award small amounts of currency. Or, allow our "leftover" reward points to be converted into currency at the end of the season.

This.

Give out orbs at preset thresholds that are situated in between thresholds for Unique Items.
1 Alchemy orb at 10
1 Chaos orb at 20
1 Regal Orb at 45
1 GCP at 90
2 GCP at 180
1 Divine Orb at 360
(values not final obviously).

thx for the ''(values not final obviously).'' because only getting 10pts = an hour and a half of playing XD imagine 90 for 1 alch FML! :P
ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

Now, I never took part in the closed beta races

Stopped reading here. If you dont know how good feeling you got in closed beta when you got your orbs for a race then please dont comment if the new prize or old system is better or worse. You have no idea.

Yes, because it is so terribly hard to imagine getting some currencies after a race.
This might be the dumbest reply to a post ever.

I am fairly certain people can accurately decide for themselves if currencies or other rewards would be more fun to them.....since it is their opinion and all.

another I did not play cb but I know it all wannabe. Go buy some microitems so you atleast help with develop costs.
Really excited of this atuff. Never participated in any of these races before so it will be something new and funny to try out! :D
Shadow masterrace.
Race Times:

I agree that the world does not center on the USA, but count me in as one who is disappointed he will not be able to play many races. Loved them in Closed Beta, and pretty bummed about them now.

Race Rewards:

I agree with the argument that these rewards do not gives players incentive to spend their race currency to do better. I like the idea of using my alchemy orbs to make my weapon better in the last 20 minutes of a race to push farther than I would otherwise. If the rewards aren't impressive, I'd rather keep my currency. If I'd rather do that, why not just play normally for those 1/2/3 hours instead of the race?

Just my thoughts. Very happy and impressed with virtually everything else that I've seen in this game!
If we use an orb of scouring on the uniques will they retain the special artwork after we use alchemy, or other orbs on it where it is no longer a "unique" item?

I like the new system a lot. I feel like the accumulation of points across the season for something like this will give people who are more casual players more of a chance to get something out of the events.

I see lots of complaints about the prizes though. I understand and agree with the fact that giving currency will have a (negative) impact on the economy. But since lots of people are not interested in the items currently listed as rewards, what if it were something fleeting, other than currency such as a one time use potion that would give a very brief but insane IIQ or IIR? People who want to keep them as trophies could do so. People who think the trophy concept is dumb, well they use them and get the benefits of it. Win/Win?
I want currency rewards again. Put them back in.
these rewards are shit...

i'm so bummed i was craving the new races but now ill probably just do them to practice for whenever the rewards/system improves
