Is it time for PoE to have a proper tutorial?

No point in a tutorial when youtube videos exist. Plus the tutorial would be insanely long and no one would set through it. If it was a short one it wouldnt cover nearly enough information thus defeats the purpose.

I think its a good thing to have people ask questions, look up things for themselves and figure things out. The more hands on the learning experience the better, the more theyll retain because theyre actually seeking out knowledge themselves.

It seems alien to us, but many people playing games don't consider looking up guides, know what a 'wiki' is, or expect people to make youtube videos about what they're doing. There are multiple generations of people expanding their horizons who weren't raised on computer games or the internet.

I bought Stardew Valley for my father last month, and quickly realized I should point him to both the game's wiki and the steam forums - two things he had no idea existed.

Even if all PoE did was link you to the wiki with a pop-up blurb saying "If you're new to the game/genre we recommend you consult /url for helpful advice and information. While we can't guarantee that it is 100% correct due to its open-source nature, many new players find it invaluable for learning more about the systems of Path of Exile."

Or writing up a guide, as someone suggested earlier, hosting it on the homepage, and doing what I just said above in linking to that.

A lot of us here are SO far removed from the new player experience we can't relate to it anymore. We can't unlearn what has been learned - and knowledge is the easiest way to cut down on character crushing mistakes. We forget what it's like to be flat broke and out of currency. And we definitely can't relate to a new player experience as it exists today, with all these new league mechanics crunched into the main game.

if/when GGG ever makes PoE 2.
PoE 2 will happen exactly when DotA 3 and Half-Life 3 do, and that is never.

Can anyone confirm? I'm not launching a new account just for that lol.
I think that the most fun feature of this game is to learn everything from scratch. The learning curve is insane and it's very fun to expect mechanics to work when they doesnt. Somehow it's a bit like the real science, something appears to be right but for obvious reasons that we didnt notice it's wrong.

Example : Movement skills cannot be supported by multi strike or spell echo!... but flicker can..... WAIT WHAT..!

Ok, poe is just a religion , we believe it's right but we only believe ;)

The only way to progress in poe, it's to be curious, and the game needs tools, not a wiki or similar, ingame tools.

Anyway. A tutorial would be too long, too boring to follow and couldnt explain 1/10 of the game content.

To me, the only solution is to allow players to click on the keywords of the gems, when they do so, it opens a little box with informations.

We click on projectile keyword, it opens a little tab with projectile interactions and infos, how it can be supported, what it does, the projectile speed variables, penetration... why dots damage is boosted by proj nodes.... LOL.

A tutorial is boring but if a player searchs informations by himself in the game, with proper " help " infos shown in a little windows explaining a lot .........it seems to be a great solution.

Cuz let's face it, gamewiki is an independant service.
I will never be good but always I try to improve.

Uh, lookup patch notes for Forsaken Masters. Added a tutorial. I've never played it so I don't know if it's good. None of us that were here before masters have unless you started a new account.
Censored.
I kinda compare this game to "Magic the Gathering". At the first glance it's quite simple and the basics are easily understood.
HOWEVER if you start to look into it more it gets complicated as hell, but at the same time the possibilities grow and grow. I think this game does not need a tutorial, but some kind of "A beginner's guide to gems" or something like that. Some sort of guideline so you don't get COMPLETELY lost from the very start on.
Other than that it's learning by doing as well as trial and error.
And let's be honest here: figuring out how everything works together is one of the main sources of fun for a lot of players.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.

its in the UI settings toward the bottom.

I've never used it, but I would assume it works. I mean the game really isn't that hard to understand and play..the only trouble I had when I first started the game is the massive passive tree other than that skill gems, and sockets and links and colors are all pretty self explanatory I thought.

If you invite someone that has never played this game or any type of game like this I don't know why you would leave them alone and not play with them and show them the ropes of the game. I think if you want to get an in-depth tutorial you should just go to the forums.

If you have trouble figuring out Prefixes and Suffixes then you can go to http://poeaffix.net/
