Lab "is not fun" is not a good reason, try again with something of value.

The purpose most play games is for fun. I have no clue why you play if not that? Please explain.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

That's actually THE SINGLE BEST reason to change something in a video game. I hope you realize how absurd you sound saying otherwise.

That said, the reason is already implicit in this thread's very existence, since it is assumed by all who dislike the lab to be true. The more interesting (and useful) questions to answer are the follow-up ones:

"Why isn't the Labyrinth fun to PLAY? Why is it only fun to FINISH?"

That's where a thread such as this is useful, both to GGG and to players seeking to elucidate their own experiences to GGG, for fleshing out ideas and perspectives.

I said it before and I'll say it again: You do not seem particularly interested in the perspectives of others. So why bother participating in this thread?

See, the thing is, generally pissing on other people's reasons for wanting the labyrinth fixed (or, failing that, decoupled from character ascension), labelling them "without value," etc.--these kinds of posts are quite frankly boring. There are already about half a dozen posters who have filled this thread with posts whose only purpose is to deny deny deny the perspectives of others, and your posts are no more convincing than theirs were.

So allow me to suggest an alternative: I am interested in YOUR perspective, and if you share it in a non-combative manner, I'd love to hear it. Talk about why you love the labyrinth, or talk about why you are scared that ideas presented in this thread will hurt the game you love. Those are LEGITIMATE contributions, and GGG needs to hear them too.

I read yesterday on reddit that the uber lab was very short and i decided to go for my fourth ascension. What ended up happening was me "farming" Uber lab. It was amazing. I only had to go through traps 2-3 times each run and i believe therein lies the solution. Layouts.

Design more layout that are like yesterday's Uberlab's for every difficulty. What's more, these layouts should have "secret passage" wells that let you bypass the traps you absolutely have to go through, bring you further away from the aspirant's trial and don't spawn you in the middle of traps, like they usually do now. They should code these layouts to be randomly selected for a difficulty each day, with a higher chance for lower difficulties.

Unless GGG really wants to shove that kind of gameplay down our throat, i see no reason why they should not do it.

I like the idea of having more secret ways, but those would need to be well hidden, and very unpredictible ( some one way making you go back to the previous zone for example, this is a labyrinth after all ).
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Lab needs some tweaks sure. But out of the 280 pages in this thread, no one has given a good reason to entirely remove ascendancy points from Lab. People have complained but not given many solutions.

Lab needs the traps removed and replaced with mobs. In it's current form the labyrinth is shit and not funny at all.

I waited for 7 months, without playing PoE, and still no answer from GGG about "free" (see topic) ascendency points. No answer to the community about many important topics.

Now, I'm routing to WoW again, sadly...

See you next year Bro. I will come back, at least to test the my new VGA, in a couple of months, and maybe later again to make my last level up.

PoE, the Eternal beta test, haha.

See you, and enjoy.

Finishing the uber lab almost feels like a bribe.

Spoiler

All these gems were 19% and the last one 17%. Why did they put so many rewards behind this shitty gameplay? No wonder the dung beetles are defending it with tooth and nail.

EXACTLY.

There is a big difference between bribing someone to engage in shitty gameplay (what I will call the "brute force" approach to trying to fix bad design) and inviting someone to engage in fun gameplay and giving them smaller but more appropriately proportionate rewards.

The former is easier to implement; just change your spreadsheet tables that feed your loot design. No development funds required at all. The latter requires more effort, sorry.

The advantage of bribes: Your playerbase which is fixated on economic rewards will lap them up, and will happily defend your decision against any criticism which surfaces. And these forums have seen plenty of that!

The disadvantage of bribes: They don't fix any of the fundamental problems. And your more sophisticated customers (who are more interested in gameplay than in economic rewards) will be even more disgusted at the result.

Which approach is superior? I'll let GGG decide. Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages (mostly short-term vs. long-term), after all.

Asking to remove traps coz bots cant run it, lelele, add traps everywhere ggg.
I honestly don't see any problem with the lab as it is.

For me the whole lab is just one big boss fight with real mechanics - a bit more cutthroat though - like don't stand in the degen pool or move away from that telegraphed attack (wich traps basically are).

The only issue is that you need life regen (and therefore no Vaal Pact) - but if your just doing it for the points you can just spec in some life reg and remove Vaal Pact for the 3/4 runs.
