As for how it works, the current plan is a combination of public stash tabs (to make it easier to find items) and separately, an asynchronous cross-instance-website trading system. You can basically trade (without buyouts) across the game and website. The trades and offers are still there when you log in later, so it's possible to trade with offline people or people who aren't in your game area or are on their phone or work PC.

So next waves not only not make it better for regular tabs, but actually make it worse, because when this new trade system will be complete - it will make sites like poe.trade mostly obsolete.
Also I like that nowhere in the Chris post it's mentioned, that public tabs will be exclusive feature of premium tabs. GJ.

I know people will hate me for saying this, but I am looking forward to those "waves-to-come".

All things considered, I see no mention of regular tab users being unable to buy stuff from premium tab users. That being said, even with 0$ investment, shopping ingame will be a snap for everybody. Should premium tabs be a requirement on both ends it would be a pity, if you asked me, because then I would consider these changes to be a touch too exclusive.

As far as the mentioning of premium tabs is considered, I'd say we're all better off waiting a little bit longer to see the "final product". It might very well be the case that every account gets additional tabs in the future, or they might implement this feature for regular tabs as well, with some restrictions maybe, we'll see about that.

And just to get this out the way: As long as there are folks with regular tabs only, who are using poe.trade and whatnot, these sites will still get their share of attention. Players who are heavily into trading will not want to miss that market for sure. The only real problem arises when poe.trade goes offline for good, at which point I think it is fair to say that GGG would have to come up with a solution that does not require premium tabs at all.

Agreed. I'd like to see regular-tab-only users be able to trade in a future wave, but I'm happy with this announcement still and looking forward to actually start a shop now.

Honestly just remove all these improvements, people can not handle anything that is not 100% free.

Well I dunno people seem to overestimate the change this brings, the way I see it, finding items to buy etc. still all goes through poe.trade, it only makes the indexing easier (but if you trust acquisition,that's also fairly simple way to keep your shop updated and your stuff up on poe.trade). Though I see why people get upset(especially those who bought regular tab upgrades,) about it and it does leave a bitter taste. However, it's the first wave of improvement so maybe it will come for standard tabs as well. Else it would be swell if one of the free stash tabs would be upgraded to premium but I kinda doubt GGG would do that.
But the fact that trading still relies on a 3rd party site is kinda jarring, if the owner of said website decides to shut it down, trading becomes a clusterfuck again, and this improvement wouldn't help either.

About the whole p2w thing, stash tabs were always a grey area (at least imo), and this improvement certainly adds some fuel into the fire (I thinks it's more p2feature, but it goes into that direction). I give GGG the benefit of doubt for now , though it would be good if they explained what future improvements include and if they intent to widen this feature on all tabs, not only the 1% (we politics now).


Last but not least, the improved API for online status is much welcomed, as many times the info wasn't correctly displayed.

Love that being on the ladder was decoupled from indexers showing me online. Always disliked the early league time commitment necessary to do any real trading. This change is awesome.

I agree.
The only thing I would also like to see is a button that you could be shown offline. Lets say that you want just to map and to chill out, you don't want to be all the time being PM. So, it shouldn't be online or offline, but rather available to trade or not.

I would love to see a non premium tab owners also getting this feature.
My 2 bundles of normal tabs are more than enough and I never needed the premium tab features, but GGG got greedy now. those cheeseburgers and cola ain't cheap.
Guess will have to use procurement and grind to stay in top 1500 of ladder to even be shown there.
