First Wave of Trade Improvements

It's just the fact of life... beggars can't be choosers, so if you want an extra feature, you pay for it, one way or another. Simple.

Quite simple, except for the fact that that's the exact opposite of the way PoE is advertised.

I find it absolutely astonishing how many of you are marveling at the fact that trading in this game will STILL be light years behind any other trading system in any other game of any other genre.

Its like you people have set your expectations dirt low that you'll take anything GGG throws at you.

There's no "marveling" from me as you describe it. I know PoE is far behind the times when it comes to an in-game auction house. So this is certainly a step in the right direction of hopefully much more to come in each wave to follow. I'm just happy they spent some time to make this.

Keep in mind that GGG is an indie developer still. They're not some small group of a big name company. It's amazing they've done as much as they did with the graphics and animation, let alone balancing gameplay and handling content updates. So perhaps what you see as our "marveling" is really just us being impressed that GGG decided to enter this arena when in the past most of us are focused more on gameplay.

The conversation in this thread has been poisoned by radical voices from opposite poles of the opinion spectrum. it bares strinking resemblance to what is currently happening in the US. but anyways..

I think we all need to consider the fact that this will be the first wave of trade improvements as stated by jonathan on behalf of ggg.

its the first

yall need to chill out

Well, keep in mind that, barring wild speculation, people can only discuss what's openly on display and they tend to do that. To a certain degree that's probably totally fine, too. I mean, it's feedback, I'd assume that has some value to the devs.

That said, I think you're quite right. There's more to come and we don't have the entire picture.

Advertised? Please show me where having trade listing features in a Premium Tab is the "opposite" of their advertising. GGG has claimed "ethical monetization system", and I don't see where this new feature would be unethical at all. GGG isn't selling gear, gems, flasks, buffs, or currency through micro-transactions, so there's no P2W.

However, if I wanted to play the devil's advocate and argue for your point, Wilson from GGG did state this...

"
We hate the concept of pay-to-win games, so it’s great to see that players are willing to support the game and to buy purely cosmetic items.

So, for arguments sake, I would agree that this first wave of trading improvements does violate that statement of "purely cosmetic items".

We really need a statement from GGG at this point, trying to change each other's way of seeing this is futile.
If there will be future upgrades to trade that would affect all players not just premium tabs owners, now would be a good time to announce them.
Splitting your costumers on 2 sides is bad for the company.
jeez if the first wave of trade improvements cost this much, I can't imagine what the second wave is going to cost.

I'd rather pay $60 for the game and be done with it.

Many people who normally wouldn't play a f2p game have given PoE the playerbase it need/needs to succeed, mostly because this game is suppose to be different than other f2p games and purely focus on cosmetics and supporter packs.

I really (seriously could give a flying rats butt about the $5 I am going to have to spend to use this feature) but there is no doubt this changes the landscape of everything GGG has done up to this point.

I don't want to hear garbage about storage tabs, or anything about how it works smoother with premium tabs..

this is a long awaited trade system upgrade.. if you want to incorporate these brand new features into your f2p game don't put it behind a pay wall. Nothing says you can't do that.. and many other games do much worse.. just don't get upset when you lose your rep as far as not being a typical f2p p2w game.

i'll buy your premium tabs to use this obvious feature that anyone who plays this game will want to use. you lost some PR over it though, I doubt you will make enough with the premium tabs to make it worth it.

So it's letting people be able to purchase the ability to set up their own vendor stand?

Just put your item in, set the price, and hope that someone stops by and picks it up?

wish it was like that, itd be awesome!!
it really should be like that...

I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion about this. I'm just defending the new option and reiterating the situation by sharing my viewpoint.

Splitting your [customers] on 2 sides is bad for the company.

There will ALWAYS be at least 2 sides to everything. :-) That's human nature. If GGG made some other change, there would still be discussion and debate about it. They're obviously not intentionally wanting to divide their customers over some issue.

You're approaching this as if it's some sort of scandal instead of a new feature. And just for the record, this isn't an upgrade to trade: this feature already exists, it's just with third party software. Now, if GGG enabled auto selling for only Premium Tab owners, then there would be merit for these complaints.
