Donald Trump

No, no pause. Because he is winning, but winning only the lowest common denominator. Moderates win general elections. The Undecided win general elections. Those groups have made up their minds on Trump.

Hell, even the GOP is dead-set against him winning the nomination, because they know that he will absolutely fuck the downticket races. On the exceedingly remote chance he wins the general, the damage done to the party will last decades.

For more on this, go ahead and check out Dukakis' 1988 presidential run. He fucking CRUSHED the democratic primary.

And then this happened:

Dukakis didn't pick a very good running mate:

Aside from the Horton campaign tactic - anyone who saw Dukakis' debate performance KNEW he was DOOOOOOOMED.

Disclaimer: Of course, back then voters sort of cared about having a competent president.

I wouldn't say Trump only has the lowest common denominator any more than I would say Hillary only has the corrupt let them all die and lie about it denominator or Bernie only has the socialist denominator.

The lowest common denominator Trump meme is pure propaganda. Trump has a larger share of the moderate and independent vote than people think for some of the same reasons Bernie does.

Trump does have a much bigger percentage of people who are against him, specifically among the female voters. Whether or not Trump becomes president, if he is the official party nominee, there will be a very large turnout of people opposed to him who will wreak havoc on the GOP house and senate votes.

Larger turnouts generally don't favor the GOP in any election.

Aside from losing control of the house and senate if Trump is the GOP nominee, the republican powers that be fear Trump because he isn't owned by the existing financial powers that be. He doesn't have to play by their rules.

The powers that be are so terrified by a potential loose cannon that they aren't thinking correctly. If Trump (or whoever is elected) wants to get any policies passed at all, he/she has to be somewhat of a team player.

The compromise necessary to get legislation passed is what will keep any of the potential presidents from completely running wild.

Those checks and balances have been eroded over the last 20 years and they need to be restored. The system is far more important than whichever clown is leading the parade.

Trump has to actually win moderates, minorities, and women in the general.

Check his ratings with those groups, then tell me with a straight face that he has even a tiny chance at this.

People have been telling me since June 2015 that Trump doesn't have a chance to win anything. In fact, they were in complete denial until like November, saying it was just a PR stunt and that he's a clown. We'll see how it goes, imo it's basically a coin toss between him and Shillary.

You aren't really winning anything until you cross the finishing line. I think this is the part where Trump lose momentum.

You're really so sure of this, like gun to your head sure of this.

Trump may win, he may not I have no clue.

But holding onto ratings and polls, the same polls and likely the same methodology which had him completely dead in the water before the primaries even started as your rationale doesn't cause you to reflect...not at all?

Maybe even pause for a tiny bit before releasing this gem

Hillary Clinton isn't gonna win because everybody love her. What is more plausible is Trump would lose the race because they have a candidate they don't want to win. He is too extreme.

This election is unreal

Because it was always so dignified in the past?

If it ends up being Trump and Hillary, expect the kid gloves to come off, and for the truth to be far more of a spectacle than any mud slinging could ever be.

If the Clinton campaign had any sense, The Energizer

would become Bill's official aide so that he can just shrug and wink his way through any tabloid innuendos. That is unless Hillary is planning on giving him the boot and announcing his replacement.

While the entertainment factor of the next seven months should be packed full, I have to wonder if our country wouldn't be better off if we just canceled this election and put a "Help Wanted" sign in the White House and start taking in some new applicants.

If Trump plays it right he could get the Bernie bro vote. A lot of Bernie bros find Hillary absolutely disgusting and would rather vote Green Party than her. Now that's obviously a wasted vote so Trump needs to pull something off to get them into his camp. Bernie and Trump aren't that far apart in terms of politics if you think about it. Especially when you see behind the populism with which he tries to get the conservative vote.

Bernie should be his VP. Imagine the chaos that would ensue.

This country it's roads the very same highways I drive... The cement I walk on. The gardens I traverse... All have history of a person who's family immigrated here. To have the Statue of Liberty still stand and have Trump be elected president the USA would be an oxymoron.

My ancestors came to the United States as immigrants from Eastern Europe. They were processed at Ellis Island. My uncle still has the notebooks great grandfather used to learn English (uncle was using them in reverse, to learn Magyar). Those ancestors entered the country lawfully, with the determined intent to learn the language and to assimilate into the culture, not to create a colony of the old country, but to become Americans.

To paint Donald Trump as counter to Liberty simply because he wants to stop illegal immigration, the importation of poverty into a country already which already suffers economic burdens of its own, is an INSULT to my ancestors, and to every immigrant, past or present, who lawfully entered the US.

That's actually an argument for Trump, not against. Indians had no immigration laws and look what happened to them :P
