What you are saying doesn't match up with any history. McCain was offered an early out precisely because of his status, but he refised it, and iirc his stance helped give some other captives courage. Antnee is right on this. McCain's history has been gone over enough times and been out there long enough for inconsistencies to have been noted and exposed if they were there. I suspect McCain's distrust all of things Russian is as genuine as many people's distrust of Hillary. Which is not to say that the Soviets didn't commit some horrific actions, or that Hillary's suspected actions are anywhere comparable.

I do think Trump is facing a huge uphill battle with the monetized war industry. Pulling a victory on that will take a lot of public persuasion and a few key compromises. Since the real issue is profit, the compromise I most expect is big projects in the home sistricts of key congressional members. Since Trump campaigned on rebuilding the military, that's not a bad issue. The real trick is to make the projects something we actually need.for.long term security amd stability. Once Congress realizes they will.be getting finding, they will be more likely to compromise on what the funding will buy.

Our elected leaders are like porn stars with less compunction about what they won't do for money. Trump can handle the money side, so I suspect congress with be doing all sorts of things. The budget will get blown up at first, and then in year 3,4 THAT will be the primary issue.
