I still think map drops are fine - boost drops and good players can do 79++ all day long

There is a difference between grinding and spending an hour doing this:

/trade 1
WTB Chisels 2.5:1, Vaals 3:2, Sacrifice Fragments 2:1
/trade 2
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 3
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 4
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 5
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 6
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 7
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 8
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 9
Enter, Up, Enter
/trade 10
Enter, Up, Enter

It's gotten so bad recently since every map needs 4 chisels, and everyone needs to use 4 chisels on their maps or they won't be mapping for much longer so uhhh.. guys WHERE DO WE GET THE FUCKING CHISELS FROM? Literally the only people selling chisels are A. new players who don't have that many and B. people who died and want to transfer currency to softcore.

I have literally no fucking clue how Anuhart is meant to ever reach a single 80 map without at least 20 hours farming merciless docks for sacrifice fragments.

I mean, sure - 80+ maps are a luxury - they are basically triple an old 78 map but c'mon, this is taking the piss in terms of gating yes?

I was all for maps being harder to get yes, that's great - old 1.3 system was a pisstake spamming 78 all day but surely we can do better than spamming trade chat to gate? I refuse to believe for all GGG's reworks, even changing the fucking art on maps and tiering mods, there isn't a better system.

Is a currency sink meant to cull the excess currency and prevent inflation, or completely deplete everything you have? (srs question, I don't play MMOs or games designed around virtual economies, until PoE)

Because current mapping completely eats up all chisel, vaal & sac. frag you'll ever find or recipe'd during your gameplay. Chisels are ofc meant to be completely consumed by maps, but the other two aren't.

chisel, vaal, sac.frag = bottleneck

(I wont even mention Zana mods and the absurdity of those prices in the GGG's grand scheme of robbing you blind, err, I mean implementing a currency sink)

Actually morbo, Ambush Zana mod as well as rolling 3 magic packs on every strongbox you find is mandatory to sustain 81+ maps. Arguably mandatory on some 80 maps as well.

It is possible to sustain 81+ maps? Since when?

then that question you just put there is a lot better =) , asking as if baiting an answer you can attack on is not very Nice.

regardless of Your previous intentions i will answer that question.

I myself think that the New system is working good , i did only run more or less blue/regaled maps in 1.3 and now i feel i have to push my character more.

I do not enjoy that some of the builddiversity feels removed though as i have to roll harder mods and that the New mob damage formula is very unforgiving if you dont go Down one of the few ( in my opinion) routes available.

The thing i like alot about the New system is that we have higher maps now , something you can look forward to and get excited about when they drop , i really like carrots when im grinding whether it is currency , uniques , divination Cards or just Levels/Level of Your gems.

I dont think its alot harder to sustain maps around lvl 75-76 , but i havent made the push for 77 yet but i will soon enough. but then again i also have no issues running 73-74 maps when im 88-90 to build a mapbase .
I might not get alot of exp but gemexp and drops stays the same , and they go fast so i don't mind.

That is my 2 cents on the matter and even though i didn't have any issues With how 1.3 worked, i have nothing against the aproach this time around.

Upkeep-based sinks are the most realistic and reliable sinks available. While I can concede that careful balancing is indeed tricky business with some negative results if it's not spot-on, expecting players to sink currency in other ways, on the scale required for proper sinking, is a pipe dream.

I am quite certain that the current system isn't "spot on", and I sincerely doubt it can. At least, it doesn't seem to be having any effect on exalt prices snowballing to extremes.

The thing is, taxes don't empty stashes, they only get them to fill at slower rates. What you want is for people that have loads of currency to empty full pages of currency without pumping some new value into the economy. Basically, there needs to be something you'll always be willing to spend currency on, without getting the feeling that GGG is extorting you of your currency.

PS : a proof that the current currency sinks are not working is the inflation of chaos orbs.

Well, I already roll +3 magic pack on every box I encounter in 76+ maps. I realized early on that this is a must-do now. I scour all the rare boxes and rerol even "uniqe item" & "fully linked" affixes, something I'd never do in 1.3...

I have a good pool of 75, 76, 77 and a few 78s. Have done exactly 1x 80 (Courtyard), 1x 81 (Palace) & 1x 82 (Abyss) so far. All the other Act 4 top tier maps still elude me.

So in summary,

- you have to work harder, run harder, yellow maps
- you think that sustaining maps around 75-76 is not harder than before even though you could sustain them by running them blue before
- you have not yet tried to push for 77s, so you are currently 6-7 levels lower than the maximum map level (would have been lvl 71-72 maps before)

I honestly do not know what to say to this.
