Will we be able to earn exp on a gem beyond its level with the new system? Say we have 151 strength, could we have enough exp saved up to level a level 1 red to level 10, or will exp stop until you level it up?

The experience stops being gained at the point that it's waiting to level up.

While myself, as well as a lot of other people, will probably be ok with this. I can already see issues with people not realizing their gem needs to be leveled. People could potentially go several levels until suddenly they're not nearly as effective and its because they forgot about their gem and/or had no idea that it was time to lvl it up.

Will there still be notifications letting us know the gem is able to hit the next level? Even with notification, I'm sure there's going to be plenty of people not knowing what to do and crying about it. Then they're going to want a tutorial for that as well.
Hmm...I suspect that they will have something in place similar to the passive skill notification...a small icon on UI which shows a gem ready to level up...click on it and it opens your inventory, or otherwise highlights which gem is ready to level up
About the Keystones, is there a chance that we can get an example about how those are going to work? .. would stop the speculations in game and perhaps allow some planing ahead already .. as i don't think you guys want to mix the skill tree all over again but put some keystones in(in-between)

Thanks
There is always a way.
If not ... let's make one ;D

Nice, another progress. BTW are you considering vendors in 0.9.4? Or is it far away from being implemented?

That's 0.9.5. Second week of December roughly.

The Option to sell at vendors is in my eyes major important for the future balancing in Orb-Drops and Orb-"Getback" at vendors selling. This option is my most missing ingame at the moment.

Aye, keeping track of up to 30 gems or so will be a hassle, and a UI notification wouldn't solve this. Once you decided to not level up a gem, it would just be there annoying you and being useless to notify you of others.

Personally I think capping it at what your current stats allow is the best option, as people can't horde exp into a gem and you don't have to worry about your gems constantly.

But this is beta, so we'll be sure to see how it works once it's implemented.
Should be like this:
If I have a level 15 gem but want it to function as a level 6 gem I can set it to level 6. But it will earns exp as a level 15 gem and go to level 16 and so on, while being locked as a level 6 gem.

I'd prefer a total wipe, but I suppose passives only is fine :P

its NICE you would prefer that but my 45 HC Ranger says NO!

i cant wait Chris :) hopefully tho, the patch wont unbalance the game in the opposite direction. i dont really find high lvl marauders too weak tbh.

In fact that's exactly what I thought as a solution Vandro.
He who fights with monsters
might take care lest he thereby
become a monster.

yeah right. because you use 30 gems.
Also, if you cant handle to level up your gems, even if its notified properly, you probably should go to WoW or something. Its like not noticing your HP goes low :D
