[Official] WINE info thread
" Well, after a few restarts of the game the bug came back... This was therefore not a matter of gateway. I tried to update Xorg, revert my driver to the (non-beta, [community] repo) catalyst 13.1, save or not the credentials, ... It is still very random... |

" While I respect that view, I still think the point of this thread has been subverted by the growing amount of support we're doing in it. I think there should be a clear post with nothing else; instructions on how to get PoE working. And most people here are not going to know about AppDB or be able to sift that entirely noisy redundant mess either. Hope that idea for a Linux / OSX forum goes somewhere though. That would be ideal, as then julus wouldn't be getting a ton of noob questions in PM. Last edited by ionface#0613 on Feb 24, 2013, 4:39:39 AM

" Actually, I get like 2 PM per week :) EDIT: Mac port is pretty straightforward, unpack and launch. As the every mac application is "executable" directory which contains all dependencies and the program itself, there are no questions to how to install, but only how to fix things. Do you guys know some tricks for ati graphics im having fps drops, tried everything i could think of and nothing worked

" No - I'm in the same boat. The latest thing I tried that failed to make any difference was installing CompizConfig Settings Manager and disabling "Sync to VBlank" under the OpenGL section. I've tried the nosound switch of course, and disabling vsync in game, as well as lowering the graphics settings to the lowest values (other than resolution). Both global and trade chat are disabled as well. I have an ATI HD 4770 which is plenty powerful for this game but there is something wrong with the ATI drivers and/or Wine. " I would say it is in ati drivers, and it is not platform specific. Windows users are complaining, Wine users are complaining, either the Ati driver utterly sucks or the game does not like ATI cards at all... |
|
" Not sure if this is a setting you can change with the ATI drivers in Linux/OSX, but this thread suggests disabling Tessellation as a possible way to get better gfx performance. Might be worth a try. Last edited by Drakier#1520 on Feb 25, 2013, 4:00:57 PM

" Thanks for showing us that thread - I was unaware of it. However, there is no way to set Tessellation in the Linux ATI CCC that I am aware of. Last edited by Sovyn#2637 on Feb 25, 2013, 5:27:48 PM

So after playing with a bunch of settings and installing/reinstalling stuff...
turns out my performance issues were due to forgetting to disable GLSL. It had nothing to do with the DirectX version. I went back to a "clean" prefix with only installing vcrun2010, d3dx9_36, and riched20 on wine 1.5.24 (so I don't need usp10). Once I got the prefix loaded and ready, I remembered to go in and set GLSL to disabled, and it runs like a dream again. Using the FPS graph (F1) I was even able to tweak the graphics settings to get a good framerate, and it turns out that my GPU seems to like the higher settings better than the lower settings. In most cases I get better FPS or no change going from a lower setting to a higher setting. I disabled Shadows since I don't like the way they look anyway as well as Screen Shake and VSync. Post Processing is enabled and everything else is turned up to max. Needless to say, I'm happy with the results. I feel really bad for everyone with an ATI card. I personally haven't used ATI cards in years because I got turned off of them from prior problems (even on Windows). I'm not usually a brand loyal kinda person, but in this case, I'm super happy with NVidia and their support (especially for Linux). |

" That would do it! I'll add that to my little PoE on Wine walk-through a few pages back as a reminder to Nvidia owners. Last edited by Sovyn#2637 on Feb 26, 2013, 7:43:46 PM
