[Official] WINE info thread
I'm running:
Ubuntu 12.04 Wine 1.5.24 Using the installed copy POE from windows 7 I have browsed to my Path of Exile folder and I cannot find the executable. I have also cd to the directory and tried to run client.exe in multiple folders have no clue were it is can anyone help out? |
|
" My recommendation is to follow this link and set up a fresh PlayOnLinux prefix. I'd also recommend doing as it says and copying all the files into the prefix (or move the files if you don't want to keep backups for Windows 7) It is by far the easiest method to get PoE working in Linux |
|
" I'd do what Drakier suggested, but if you want to try running it with your current setup, you can browse to ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile" . Tip: Control + H to show hidden folders such as ".wine" in your home folder. Right click on Client.exe and left click on "Open with Wine Windows Program Loader" to execute the game. Thanks guys, got the installer working on my playwithlinux, I was having trouble before I'm not use to this new "unity" based ubuntu after i get it working I will be switching over to xubuntu or something.
If it does not play after the install I will follow the exact tut :) |
|
" I don't have a lot of experience with ubuntu or "unity". I just know that when I saw it last, I wasn't a fan. I decided to build my system using just straight up Debian and I'm liking it a lot more. I went with the sid version, so I actually used aptosid because it has a better way to block breaking changes. All the benefits of sid with a little less breaking. I recommend not using the installer for PoE other than to create an initial prefix that you can then use to copy out of to fix all the problems that the installer makes. If you didn't follow the walkthough I linked to, I highly recommend it as it is by far the best way I've been able to get PoE to work smoothly and without problem. Anyway... good luck! |

" The reason I never followed the walkthrough is because you guys are using "playwithlinux" I have never got one game working with that so I never used it. I just recently hit the spot after the ledge area in act1 and everytime i get done killed 1-2 mobs it crashes so I figured I would give the walkthrough a go. After moving my PoE into the drive I have created on playwithlinux and trying to start poe from the shortcut I made i get this: Unhandled exception: unimplemented function msvcr100.dll.wctomb_s called in 32-bit code (0x7b83bbe5) I doubled checked to make sure all steps in the walkthrough have been done correctly, no luck. I'll go back to just using wine for now and stay out of that area that causes the crash :( |

PoE was working fine until the latest update. Now I can start it up, but the keyboard doesn't work due to lack of focus. So I minimize PoE and the mazimize PoE and the keyboard focus is working again (as I was doing under the previous version). The only problem now is that the graphics stop updating and nothing appears to happen, but if I minimize and mazimize it again then I can see that I have moved. Anyone else having these problems?
I'm using ubuntu 64-bit and have tried with kde, unity, gnome classic with and without effects but it's always the same. |

" You're missing the 'winetricks vcrun2010'. That is what is causing that error. At first I had issues with the winetricks thing because my shell didn't want to run it because of my 64-bit OS. I just had to go in and map my local wine install to the PlayOnLinux version using a symlink. Also make sure you're not running winetricks from a normal shell, but from a shell within PlayOnLinux under the prefix you have PoE installed to. If you run winetricks from a normal terminal, it will only update the ~/.wine/ prefix that is standard with wine, and not the PlayOnLinux one which would be something like ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/PoE/ or whatever you named it. So when you run the shell from PlayOnLinux in the prefix of PoE, it should be set to that path and update the right prefix. Last edited by Drakier#1520 on Mar 1, 2013, 11:03:47 AM

" Are you running "Fullscreen", or are you attempting some other non-fullscreen method? I've found that any sort of "windowed" setting doesn't work well for me, so I just use Fullscreen set to the resolution of my desktop. Also maybe check the vsync setting? |
|
" Just sharing my experience for reference - PoE runs only in fullscreen for me as well. If try to switch to windowed or windowed fullscreen, the game screen just freezes and I have to tap the esc key to get it to revert back to fullscreen mode. I can't minimize the game at all (Ubuntu/Unity/ATI). When I try, the Unity bar appears but there is no way to restore keyboard focus to the game, although the mouse seems to stay in the game. So, I have to be very careful about hitting alt too much or the windows key. Last edited by Sovyn#2637 on Mar 1, 2013, 3:48:48 PM
