[0.11.0] Aimlessgun's Cold Caster Guide [Now with RF/PA section] Videos! [
when I felt wimpy (and it took me a bit to get pure ES gear, and there's still room for improvement) I went wall + totem, they are indeed pushed away, so try casting it behind you, there is a sweet spot at maximum range of the totem where they are just blocked, but can't be pushed anymore
it helped me go through a few difficult levels, but don't get used to it, it's better to use totem to do some damage I guess, after a while I did go multiple projectiles on ice spear and used totem for FP which saved my ass a lot, now my gear is a bit better so I use fp again as my main (much more fun that way), but I'm kinda afraid that later on I'll get 1-2 shotted and I might have to reverse to FP on the totem again :P IGN: AlCohonez, GhengizCohen

I'm trying out this build right now, and I love it, but what I don't understand is why you're not running either Clarity or Discipline (or even both) off of HP using Malachai's Simula or that chest armor with blood magic. It's not like I need to mention the advantages of losing about 200hp to be able to run 1-2 additional auras, but I'm sure there's a good reason why you're not doing it. Is it a choice between a totem and more auras?

" Crit is factored in the tooltip. A lot of the time you might get this choice, between more crit chance or more raw DPS. Crit chance has defensive benefits, so I would make the choice based on whether you feel you need more defense or not. " Grace isn't bad. You need to replace your neck and hat ASAP though, even blues with HP/res prefix/suffix would be better :P Belt also needs an upgrade badly. Basically you don't have enough HP/ES. Maybe even shift some passives around to get more HP nodes. " The build is already cutting it pretty close on defense, so reserving even 500 of your HP on a couple auras can be a bad idea, especially against chaos damage. You can certainly do it though. If switching Disc to HP lets you run Purity that's probably a net gain in survival. |

Level 71, my gear is hurting and having crap luck with self-found upgrades.
I don't have much currency (foolishly trying to craft my own upgrades and burnt through a bunch), but, I do have two exalts. Just wondering what slot to upgrade that would give me the best bang for my buck. gear:
Spoiler
Would it be worth trying to get a nice 5L/6L chest - or focus on upgrading another slot instead? Also, my resists are very weak - ended up spending a bunch of passives to pick up some +resist nodes, would like to get my resists up with gear so I can refund some points and place them elsewhere. Hi there,
Thanks so much for this guide. I am having a lot of fun with my Coldcaster ! I have two questions (addressed to anyone really): 1) What is better to have faster projectiles (with reduced DPS and mana compared to the other gem) or should I aim at the bigger damage with the increase in critical damage multiplier ?) 2) I was fortunate enough to find a white 6 sockets Savant's robe. I used exactly 22 fusing to get a 5L ! and one alchemy to get this: Is it good enough or shall I scour it and try again (with alchemy, chaos or using alteration, transmutaion, regal) Any thoughts appreciated ! Cheers ! Last edited by edessiex#3577 on Apr 15, 2013, 6:09:24 PM

Would advise going higher (if the itemlevel of this chest allows for mods with more ES), to at least over 300 es (so you want both a flat +es and %inceased ES mods), I'm 70lvl CI and I needed a better option and managed to get this one rather cheap: (also want to 5-link when I gather a few more stacks of fusing). If you have a look through the trading forums you'll see that the good es chests start at 600 es, but people tend to ask for ridiculous prices, even more ridiculous when well-linked.
EDIT: @ Kaniz, if you have 2 exalts, go for a good 600+ es chest, all the other stuff seems decent enough, don't think it's worth burning through 2-3 chaos to get 30es improvement on a smaller piece of armour (btw. did you drop exalts or traded?) Aimlessgun,
I have a question regarding minions. You seem to recommend using zombies but there often aren't corpses around to reanimate. Skeletons are tankier and I can have more of them at once. Granted, they don't last very long but I can summon them on demand. Are skeletons a viable alternative? Also, how highly would you recommend picking up the elemental resist shield passives? Thanks in advance. |

" Mmm not super important, but I guess it depends on your luck. At lvl 69 I'd magic find Docks or City of Sarn, but if you feel confident you can use magic find gear in lvl 66 maps too. " Jewelry is your biggest priority, then boots. After that you can look into a 5l, but your chest is OK for now I think. Even getting a white 20 Onyx and two white 12% pris rings and transmute/alterationing HP/critdmg on the amulet and HP/resist on the rings is going to be an upgrade :) " Karui Ward is interesting but I'd take the dmg. That chest should be fine for a while but eventually you'll want something with more ES. Grats on the quick 5l :) |

I added another video, talking about how to adjust your gems to do Ele Reflect and Chaos Dmg per Second map mods.
" Skeletons are fine, I just didn't like the duration personally. Zombies should be tankier than skeletons though. Last edited by aimlessgun#1443 on Apr 17, 2013, 11:39:33 AM
