hm.. i think i finally understand the difference between +ele dmg nodes in Templar tree and +weapon ele dmg nodes/gem.
From this thread about why my new bow only does +100 dps in game instead of double the dps i calculated on paper. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/222960/page/1/#p1917386 Wep ele dmg modifiers only affect the base ele dmg from the weapon itself. my old/new bow: even tho my new bow has TRIPLE the physical dmg, the game only says +100 dps for LA. Lightning arrow/LMP/Wep Ele dmg/LoH = 400/500 dps (old/new bow) THe reason being that the wep ele dmg gem is using the base ele dmg from the bow. it doesnt take into acct the converted ele dmg from Lightning arrow. Now in theory, the +ele dmg nodes in the Templar tree (above Amplify) should take into acct ALL ele dmg. (i havent gotten those nodes yet.) Which means this build needs those nodes! (if i'm right.) If i'm wrong, then can someone explain why the game says my new bow only does +100 DPS when the stats looks SOOOOOOOO much more powerful?? edit: Apparently i'm wrong. the reason why i'm only +100dps instead of double is that my bow only accts for a small portion of my overall dmg. gear/auras acct for the majority of my dmg! " Its really not that many travel nodes, compare it to how many it takes from unwavering to IR and duelist or ranger. There are also a bunch of side paths it gets that just arent filled in yet if you look at the "final" build(cluster of IAS, 3 clusters of 2x8%+12% health nodes), and its not just IG and accelerate, its also the path to the ranger area (which will give another 31% projectile and 12% IAS). If you think you can get to DPS nodes more efficiently I would like to see it, because I sure don't. Quick comparison, from unwavering to the dex node adjacent to the 3 WED nodes above IR (that gennerally gets passed through on way to either ranger or duelist when going IR) takes 12 stat only nodes, with another 5 to get to the duelist fury bolts cluster or another 6 to get to ranger perfect aim. From BM, counting all the stat only nodes to the middle, all the stat only nodes in the middle, and all the stat only nodes to get to shadow start, is 16. it takes 3 more to get to the ranger starting area from where the build is at 76, and those are the last 3 stat only nodes the build takes. everything else remaining is directly off this path (the 2 8/8/12 health clusters behind the marauders start that we are adjacent to already, the 8/8/12 cluster adjacent to the path to shadow start, the 3/3/3 IAS cluster on the way to shadow) As for your question with your bows, we need more information. Honestly neither bow is super great, it could just be all your damage is coming from rings and stuff anyway. Your theory about WED support gem is demonstratably wrong though, just unequip everything but a plain bow with a linked green and red slot. put in LA, then put in WED, damage goes up. Just took off all equipment with anything other than +dex, so I could wear a plain thicket I had lying around. LA with no support does 183, LA with WED support does 269. Only source of ele damage is the converted damage, so it must be getting the boost This is the only equipment I wore while checking Last edited by ShadowyDream#4629 on Mar 4, 2013, 8:10:25 PM

thx for the answers shadow!
so paying huge amounts (2GCP+) for a 4L high dmg bow doesnt seem to be worth it. Last edited by Pi314#5955 on Mar 4, 2013, 8:14:06 PM

Also, i would need more info to check your bow damage, going just off what you posted, 100dps doesnt really sound unreasonable... will post work in a minute...

(note, ele damage is based on 50% conversion, I take the 70% effectiveness penalty of LA into account later)
Bow 1 Ele DPS=((2+4+3+49)/2+(14+44)/4)*1.55=67.42dps Bow 2 Ele DPS=((13+27)/2+(53+155)/4)*1.5=108dps Increase in Ele dps=40.58 40.58dps*(1 base+.5 cataclysm cluster+.7 WED support+.39 projectile for leveled LA+.26 leveled LMP)*.7LA efficiency*.7LMP =57dps increase Now thats a little low, since I know nothing about your passive tree, and didnt add in the actual increase in physical damage, and 100 doesnt sound that far off. and no, a good bow will make a huge difference, you just need to focus on APS and flat ele damage, both will be way more efficent that phys damage. Keep in mind that "only" 100 damage was a 25% increase in your dps based on your own numbers (400 to 500 is not a small jump)... If I could get a 25% increase in my dps for 2 gcp lol |
|
Also, just for fun,
When I use this bow: My LA is 1538 When I use this bow: My LA is 1885 Thats "only" a 350dps increase, but its still 22% Thats probably the last upgrade I will ever have for anything close to 2GCP lol (got the better bow for 10chaos at the time). |

wow.. thx for the calcs!
edit: why div by 4 for physical? edit 2: re-arramged my gear to get 200 more life (1700 to 1900) and more resist. frenzy dropped from 1050 to 920 :( then i swapped out Frenzy for burning arrow since the new bow has ALOT more phys dmg. Burning arrow = 1200 dps! holy.. guess Burning arrow is now my Boss killer edit 3: I also have Broadstroke unique quiver which is +30% physical dmg. That should really ramp up my Burning arrow. god.. now i'm thinking i should start a new Physical bow ranger with Crits and crit multipliers. edit 4: omg.. just realzied my new bow didnt have any Quality. Now at 20% Quality. phys dmg went from 53-155 to 59-173 Last edited by Pi314#5955 on Mar 4, 2013, 11:27:43 PM

its the average damage
For elemental it is divided by 2 (sum the min and the max and divide by 2 will give the average) For the physical portion you sum the min and max and divide by 2 to get the average phys damage, then divide by 2 again because I was just looking at the ele portion and LA converts half. Dividing by 2 twice is the same as /4. |

HI!
I didn't read all the pages in this enormous thread, but it allready helped me planning my own Ele. Bow Marauder. So first, Thak you for that! :) My question: Is "Unwavering stance" a must-have for my survivability in HC and essential even If I'm playing a very ranged charakter? Or may I drop It for a other Way in the Passiv-Tree? Sorry, if this topic was allready discussed here.. I'm grateful for your advice. |
